I currently work as a data engineer in a consulting company. Before that, I worked as a data analyst in a fintech company. Today I'd like to discuss how the role of a data engineer is different from that of data science and data analysis, essential skill sets in the market, future career paths, and who should consider applying for data engineering roles. Data engineer involves getting raw data from various upstream sources and transforming it into high-quality consistent data for downstream use. This process includes several stages: generation, storage, injection, transformation, and serving. The role of a data engineer can vary significantly based on the company and team. For instance, in a startup, a data engineer is like a generalist and needs to build up the data architecture and best practice for the data engineering cycle. In mature companies with formal data practice, a data engineer acts more like a specialist. Some data engineers work closely with the upstream, like software engineers and application engineers, on maintaining the architecture. While others focus on the downstream, maintaining the data pipelines in the data warehouse for business needs. For those types of data engineers, they work closely with data scientists, data analysts, and business analysts. #data #dataengineering #dataanalyst #libaedu #篱笆教育

Husband & Father | Data Executive | Creator | Advising Executives on Leveraging Data for Strategic Decisions | Bridging the Gap Between Boardrooms and Tech Teams
The first hire for any data leader should be a data engineer. This does not mean that the person needs to be 100% dedicated to data engineering, but the bulk of their background and work should be focused on data engineering. The perfect hire based on domain allocation would be something like: 60% data engineer 20% data analyst 10% data architect 10% business generalist The data leader should serve more as the generalist and help connect the business to the data, but the data engineer should be able to put together basic dashboards and reports. The initial build will be refined over time, but the data engineer shouldn't develop unnecessary tech debt to build quickly. Therefore, they should have a basic understanding of good data modeling and architecture principles. Lastly, everyone on the data team should understand how the data connects to the business needs—even if they're more involved with the tech than the business directly. The allocations for each domain can be tweaked by +/- 10%, but the primary role for the first hire should always be a data engineer. Even if you don't hire a data engineer first, the first thing any new data hire will be working on will be data engineering. #EGDataGuy #datateam #dataengineer

DVA is not associated with this job posting Senior Product Data Analys Americas Remote https://lnkd.in/g4GGUqJg You'll be a consultant and trusted advisor to folks across our functional teams, but particularly focused on supporting our Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) org as they work to improve our product and our customers’ experience. While data helps inform many decisions at Customer.io, it’s one factor alongside other things like customer research, our experience, and intuition. You won’t find us running experiments to figure out which of 50 shades of blue is the best one for a button color! You'll be helping us make decisions that matter. A bit about how we work... We get data into our Snowflake warehouse though a mix of scalable SaaS ETL tools (Stitch, Customer.io’s Data Pipelines) and engineering-managed data pipelines for data originating from our production systems. We curate that raw data into an analytics layer using dbt and then build charts and dashboards on top of that layer in Sigma or build Mixpanel dashboards based on product usage events. Sometimes we'll take that data into Sheets to build a forecast or pipe it into a specialized tool for more exploration. We're always interested in exploring new ways to unearth insights. As our new Senior Product Data Analyst, you will... Own our Product Analytics data catalogue and work with various EPD squads to ensure we’re tracking the right things in the right way to generate valuable insights. Review our PLG customer journey, the data we have available, inclusive of quality, and make a plan to improve data quality and comprehensiveness to deliver a clean PLG channel dashboard and funnel. Study our existing product analytics and usage data to align the team around specific “aha” moments that drive desired outcomes and metric definitions for those outcomes. You would then use these findings and metrics to, for example, work with our Growth squad to devise a series of experiments to decrease time to aha for newly onboarding self-serve customers. #career #job #jobs #jobsearch #education #business #success #hiring #careergoals #work #motivation #recruitment #love #employment #careers #careerdevelopment #resume #college #goals #job #training #careeradvice #interview #nowhiring #careercoach #entrepreneur #leadership #jobseekers #virtualassistant
