This is what I heard from the young people that spoke and what's important to them in their alternative provision: 💫 They could talk to someone when they were feeling anxious or stressed.➡️ They felt heard, understood and active listening from adults is taking place. 💫 They could take a break when they needed to. ➡️ Keeps them in their Optimal window of tolerance, and fulfills their sensory need. 💫Not as stressful or hectic as their normal school. ➡️Provided safety for their nervous system and less likely to enter Fight/Flight/freeze state. 💫They didn't have to wear a uniform.➡️Sensory needs are met and they feel comfortable and regulated. 💫 They got to have a blanket.➡️ Helped to regulate them and help them to feel safe.
