SOLID GAS FILTRATION: THE NEW GENERATION OF ADSORBERS ABSTRACT Gas adsorption on porous solids is a phenomenon with great industrial interest. It can be implemented in different applications, such as: i) indoor air quality, removing NOx, SO2, formaldehyde and others; ii) corrosion control, reducing the corrosive atmosphere which can damage metallic, electrical and electronic equipment; iii) biogas, removing the pollutants such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur compounds and VOCs from the biogas stream; iv) odor control, mitigating the odor produced from sometimes toxic gases, v) removal of toxic or environmentally hazardous gases. The operation principle of these type of solid gas filtration technology is the adsorption. Two main processes by which adsorption takes place are physical and chemical adsorption. The key parameters to obtain high adsorption capacities are the properties of the supporting materials, including the specific surface area, volume, porosity and pore size distribution. The four commercially dominant adsorbent materials are activated carbon, zeolites, silica gel, and activated alumina. These materials can also be impregnated or mixed with other chemical compounds and extruded to achieve the gas removal through chemical adsorption. The development of efficient adsorbents under the principles of circular economy is a novel approach...
