A fruitful week it has been. We are all commiting to enhancing the agency of local communities to accelerate climate action initiatives. Centre to all the discussions is utilizing social media and media houses to amplify community voices for just climate action. If it is not documented and shared then it did not happen. Together we can achieve more to address the impacts of climate change. #ClimateChangeStories #WeAreVCA #VoiceForChange

❝In an increasingly urbanised world where human activities are centred in urban areas, actions at the local level are crucial if we are to mitigate climate change.❞ Europe is one of the most urbanised regions in the world, with 330 million citizens living in urban areas that account for a large bulk of the bloc’s emissions. These cities must adapt and evolve to mitigate the effects of climate change but, more than that, they must embrace courageous climate action. In this week’s Critical Thinking article, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, mayor of Malmö, Sweden, emphasises the importance of climate action on a local, national, and European level. As our climate changes, policymakers must resist the temptation to scale back ambitious initiatives and instead reaffirm their commitments. ⤵️ To read this article in full, follow the link below. #CriticalThinking #SSHCENTRE #SmartCities #ClimateAction #GreenDeal

Climate change affects us all, but not equally. Right now, Pacific communities are paying for the climate crisis. This year, Australia and New Zealand must step up and ensure that we #makepolluterspay for climate damages, not Pacific women and their communities on the frontlines. That means supporting an ambitious climate goal at this year’s UN climate conference and committing to contribute our fair share.
