[1] A cat presented with complaints of dragging movement and limping in the left hind limb. According to the owner, there was no history of trauma, accidents, or fights. The cat had previously been treated for lameness by another veterinarian. Upon examination, arterial thromboembolism was suspected. Clinical findings included: - Dark discoloration(cynotic) of the left hind limb - Coldness in the left hind limb - Absence of a femoral pulse on the left side - No reflex observed in the left hind limb The owner was informed about the prognosis of the condition. [ Book Reference ] Thrombus formation in cats with heart issues, particularly in enlarged left atria, can lead to serious complications. When a thrombus dislodges, it often travels into the bloodstream, causing blockages, commonly in arteries supplying the hind limbs. This results in symptoms like lack of femoral pulse pale foot pads cold limbs. Diagnosis involves clinical signs, physical exams, and ultrasound. Treatment options are limited, with some cats improving spontaneously, but severe cases may lead to euthanasia. Clopidogrel has shown some success in preventing recurrence.
