From Matthew Kelly: Establishing an eighth of a cent sales tax for cultural arts and rec funding would generate around $18 million in revenue based on current sales tax data — roughly the same amount the county now spends annually on quality of life programming. #Wichita #Kansas #Local #government #arts #recreation #salestax #propertytaxes

An exemption removes part of the value of your property from taxation and lowers your taxes. You must reside at the home you will claim as your principal residence and may not claim any other property as homestead. A partial exemption removes a percentage or a fixed dollar amount of a property's appraised value from taxation. In Texas, following the November 2023 election, the residential homestead exemption entitles the homeowner to a $100,000 reduction in value for school tax purposes. There is no limit to the value of urban or rural homesteads, only to their size. Rural homesteads are limited to 200 acres for a family and 100 acres for a single adult, including improvements on the property. An urban homestead is limited to ten acres with improvements, which must be in adjacent lots. The Wyoming Legislature has less than two weeks to decide how to address its number one non-budget priority — residential property taxes. Seven bills remain in play, half of which would create exemptions. Some lawmakers are concerned too many exemptions may be piling up. Liberty Central Appraisal District (936) 336-5722 www.libertycad.org For an application, visit https://lnkd.in/g-XbyxuR You may apply for homestead exemptions only on your principal residence. Homestead exemptions remove part of your home's value from taxation, so they lower your taxes. For example, your home is appraised at $300,000, and you qualify for a $100,000 exemption (this is the amount mandated for school districts), you will pay school taxes on the home as if it was worth only $200,000. Taxing units have the option to offer an additional exemption of up to 20 percent of the total value. Homestead Exemption: What is it? A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. For example, if your home is appraised at $200,000, then the assessed value is 50 percent of that amount (varies by county or city), or $100,000. With a $25,000 homestead exemption, you only pay taxes on $75,000. Homestead exemption applications are accepted year-round; however, to grant an exemption for the current tax year, counties must receive your application no later than April 1. However, please note that although counties can accept homestead exemptions until April 1, you are encouraged to apply for any new exemptions prior to March 15 to ensure your exemption appears on your 1st installment tax bill. Applications received after April 1 will be processed for the following tax year. If you have previously applied for a homestead exemption, you do not need to re-apply. You must also apply if you now qualify for an exemption based on age or income for which you did not previously qualify. See the link provided for a list of Georgia Counties with links to their website page to learn more and how to file for this significant tax deduction. Homestead Exemption Applications for all counties are due by April 1, 2024. https://lnkd.in/eKt2jf5t Once again, thank you for allowing me to serve your real estate needs. 🔍 Reappraisal Plans Could Cost Taxpayers 🔍 The Fort Worth Star-Telegram took an in-depth look at our report on the Tarrant Appraisal District’s recent changes to its reappraisal plan, the legal questions arising from those changes, and the long-term implications for taxpayers. From the story: "The changes could 'create additional, wasteful expense' for cities, school districts and the county government if they lead to a large number of property value arbitration cases, according to the Texas Taxpayers and Research Association’s August report. "And Texas Sen. Paul Bettencourt, considered the architect behind the state’s tax code, said they will likely spur litigation from school districts concerned about funding." Here's the full report: https://lnkd.in/gAMukcai And you can find the Star-Telegram story (behind the paywall) here: https://lnkd.in/gPmZvfK8 #TexasTaxation #Tax #PublicEducation #TxLege #Appraisals
