What if I told you that every child is unique and deserves to be respected and valued for who they are? That's the idea behind inclusive education, a way of teaching and learning that embraces diversity and empowers every learner. Inclusive education is not just about providing special support for some children. It's about creating a learning environment where all children can thrive, regardless of their abilities, challenges, or backgrounds. It's about recognizing and celebrating the individual strengths and needs of each child, and providing them with the opportunities and tools they need to succeed. According to UNICEF, investing in early childhood development (ECD) is one of the most powerful and cost-effective ways to promote inclusive education. ECD interventions can help children develop the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills they need for lifelong learning and well-being. ECD can also reduce the gaps and barriers that prevent some children from accessing quality education and reaching their full potential. As educators, parents, and policymakers, we have a responsibility to nurture inclusivity for every little learner. We can do this by adopting a neurodiversity approach that focuses on the dimensions of learning, rather than the labels of special needs. We can also use evidence-based strategies and practices that support the development of all children, such as play, positive feedback, and collaboration. By doing so, we can create a more equitable and sustainable society, where every child has a sense of belonging and a chance to contribute. Join me in this journey of learning and growing together, and let's make inclusive education a reality for all. #InclusiveEducation #ECD #Neurodiversity #Play #PositiveFeedback #Collaboration #earlychildhoodeducation #earlychildhooddevelopment

Happy first day to school! For many families out there, it is with cautious optimism as there are still many families fighting for inclusive education. See Inclusion Nova Scotia's recent statement on the current experiences of families of learners with disabilities below: In light of recent statements from the Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) and CUPE about the urgent need for more resources and training to fully implement inclusive education, we are issuing a call to action. Inclusive education is a right, not a privilege, for all students, including those with disabilities. While more resources and training are crucial, broader systemic changes are also necessary to ensure every child in Nova Scotia receives the education they deserve. We continue to work alongside families of children with disabilities, advocating for their right to public education and supporting them as they face the challenges of accessing appropriate accommodations. Their voices are vital in shaping the future of inclusive education in our province. Read more about this pressing issue in the recent CBC article. 𝐒𝐨, 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲! (This is NOT a post about caregiving, actually) PRESS RELEASE: EMPOWERING EDUCATION - INCLUSIVE EDUCATION CANADA LAUNCHES A NEW NATIONAL E-RESOURCE “SOURCE FOR INCLUSIVE EDUCATION” FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Inclusive Education is a BIG DEAL. It’s controversial, though it shouldn’t be. I mean, how could anyone deprive a child of their right to an education? But it happens … too often. The easy solution is to “place” these kids in a separate classroom. Kind of a “warehousing” approach. But ensuring EVERY student has the opportunity to learn with their PEERS ... Ensuring EVERY student has the proper SUPPORTS so they can succeed ... Ensuring EVERY student receives the education they DESERVE ... THIS is what INCLUSIVE EDUCATION is all about. It’s what Inclusive Education Canada is all about. And the online resource they launched yesterday for educators, school leaders and parents is EVERYTHING you need to know to achieve inclusion. https://lnkd.in/dQ6FzWFM I've been asked and challenged ... Is Inclusion worth it? I think you know my answer. When we stifle human potential. When we exclude people. It hurts us all. “𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙩’𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙣𝙤 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙚!” (Credit: 2014 film “The Imitation Game”). #inclusion #inclusiveeducation #inclusivecommunities

Diversity increases, concerns of educators and parents grow about children’s experiences of belonging and feeling ‘at home’ ... Our study indicates that pedagogies promoting belonging and working against injustice in early years education built on intersectionality and meta-awareness are yet to be developed in early years educational settings. #children #belonging #inclusion Johansson, E., Walker, S., Lunn, J. et al.
