Every year Hexicon welcomes several students to write their master's thesis or for internships. Meet Matheus Svedholm, an engineering student focusing on marine systems from Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (the Royal Institute of Technology), Stockholm, who currently is writing his master's thesis at Hexicon. Let's find out what he writes about and what he thinks it's like to collaborate with Hexicon! What are you writing about? "In my master thesis, I am focusing on building a parametric model that can simulate how Hexicon’s Twinwind™ platform behaves when exposed to currents and wind." You have recently started your work? What is your first impression? "My first weeks here at Hexicon have been very good. It has been a lot of fun and many new impressions to take in. I have a really good feeling about the upcoming weeks and look forward to working together with everyone at Hexicon while I am writing my thesis." We agree Matheus! Are you also interested in collaborating with Hexicon during your Master's thesis? Reach out and we'll talk. #MasterThesis #EngineerStudent #MasterStudent #Career #OffshoreWind #FOW #FloatingOffshoreWind #TwinWind #Internship

Systems & Software Engineer in Aerospace | Science Fiction Author | STEM Speaker | adeenam.com | beyondthedroid.substack.com
I wanted to make this post also about Engineering Week, but it's more about speaking and continuous learning and adaptation. Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking with a bunch of high school students about how they are essentially at the perfect age to get involved in the lunar exploration that's going to be happening in the next decade or two... ...and I learned a thing or two myself about talking to high school students. It didn't occur to me that I'm used to speaking more to high school juniors and seniors... kids who have college on the brain and always ask A LOT of questions about college majors and getting their first job or internship, etc. Instead, yesterday, I was faced with a bunch of 9th and 10th graders who aren't quite there yet... and it was a completely different experience. They were closer to my own 8th grader in terms of where they are when it comes to imagining themselves as an engineer or in any kind of career — which is to say, they're not necessarily imagining it at all yet. Don't get me wrong... they were engaged and interested, but not with the same urgency and I have to re-think some of my approach to the Q&A session at the end. Which goes to show that this engineer, even with all the speaking creds I have, always has something new to learn! (And I have a wholly other kind of different speaking experience coming up over the next week)

#MastersThesis #Internship Openings for internships and masters' thesis projects in the field of Materials Characterisation are emerging at partners of the NEXT Competence Centre. Examples include projects that will assess when to use lab techniques and when to use large scale infrastructures – and go on to devise research strategies. The types of characterisation techniques that students/interns will use include Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The industry sustainability challenges addressed include the durability of austenitic stainless steels in harsh, high temperature environments and the comparative performance of Hybrid 60 steel in the presence of hydrogen. Projects/internships will be carried out in collaboration between universities and companies e.g. between KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Outokumpu or Ovako Group. Project supervisors include Peter Hedström, Mohammad Hoseini-Athar and Tao Zhou (KTH Royal Institute of Technology) as well as Tania Loaiza Uribe (Ovako) and Prasath Babu Revathy Rajan (Outokumpu). For more information about three of the possible thesis/internship projects, and how to apply, can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dPvAp_7B Other opportunities for masters' thesis work and internships will arise at the 23 partners of the NEXT Competence Centre. Follow the NEXT Competence Centre to get your notification.
