'As soon as metrics become the goal, you're f*cked' Had an insightful day at the Future of Media Manchester yesterday. Not only was it great to meet new faces and get reacquainted with old, but genuinely came away with lots of inspiring ideas. Some key takeaways: 🖱 Online on track to account for 90% of ad spend in the UK by 2029 📺 Online video is the largest and fastest growing media segment 📺 Free online video will overtake free TV viewing this year 📺 CTV will take 50% of UK TV screen ad revenue in 2029 🛒 Retail media will grow faster and be bigger than almost all other ad segments 💡 Brands should be tracking mental availability as part of brand health, as it has a strong impact on all business metrics 🥊 Tracking mental availability across different category-entry-points can also unlock new effective media planning strategies 🎮 Gaming should be a part of your core media mix, not just sit within an innovation budget There was also a gold standard case study in measurement from Sky, as well as the quote at the top of this post from the highly quotable Uzo Oleh, which serves as a reminder to, above all else, make sure we're creating big, bold, exciting work.
