We were snowed in yesterday, so I took some time to read The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates, play video games with my kids, stay off of social media, and work. The “work” part of my day, in which I was planning several facilitations for organizations who value racial equity and aren’t afraid to grapple with what it means to live into those values, was when I felt like I was doing what I could do in the face of great uncertainty. This post illustrates one of the biggest reasons why I love where I work. We see people doing the Work on the ground and work to support them. We say what many organizations won’t (not can’t, won’t) say. We grapple with what it means to live into our values like no place I’ve ever worked. My son had a snow day and kept reading my slide decks over my shoulder and asking me what words meant— “Mommy, what’s ‘equitable practice?’ What’s an ‘equity leader?’ What’s ‘transformation?’ And I told him. I love that I can tell him because it’s right out there in a presentation for work, not because I’m telling him what I wish we weren’t afraid to talk about at work. 🌞

A Call for Unity to Honor Dr. King’s Dream Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said: “We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. This is no time to say to our nation, ‘Wait.’ Now is the time!” His words resonate deeply today, reminding us that justice, equity, and inclusion cannot wait. As our nation steps into a new chapter under new leadership, we are called to act decisively—not tomorrow, not later, but now. The work of advancing DEI is not about labels or token gestures—it’s about confronting systemic barriers, empowering underrepresented voices, and creating environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. While ideals like “colorblindness” and “meritocracy” may sound fair in theory, they often overlook the realities of systemic inequities, ignoring the very barriers DEI aims to dismantle. True equity acknowledges differences and addresses disparities, ensuring opportunities are accessible to all, not just to those who have historically been privileged. Now is the time to unite across differences, invest in innovation, and ensure that justice and opportunity are realities for all. Together, let’s honor Dr. King’s vision by embracing the fierce urgency of now and building a brighter, more inclusive future. #DEI #Leadership #SocialJustice #DrMartinLutherKingJr #Equity #Inclusion #Justice #JuntosWeRise #TogetherWeRise
