Have we forgotten about the Paradise Campfire that killed 85 people?? Drones are a common feature of the California economy, they’re capable of alerting us to fire hazards over vast areas of land and yet, the state continues to burn. When will CalFire and other organizations deploying wildfire mitigation adopt technology capable of preventing these issues BEFORE they become a disaster??? #wildfire #parkfire #calfire #california #uas #drones #harbinger #saas #swarming #swarmdrones
Starting up our ALERTCalifornia feed in Harbinger today, I was shocked to see the Cohasset (Park) fire just north of Chico, CA and west of Paradise burning. over 150,000 acres and counting with ~3% containment. Thank you to all the responders out there risking life and limb to save others.
Anne M. Roush your point is well founded and made. At SCE we perform drone and ground inspections on approximately 200,000-250,000 distribution and transmission poles and structures annually within the High Fire Risk Area of our territory in Southern California. The goal is to prevent ignition events by identifying issues and addressing them in a timely manner. In the past 5 years that’s over 1 million inspections and countless ignitions prevented. It’s not a perfect system and is combined with other efforts like brush clearance and vegetation management we continue to try our best to prevent future disasters. I am aware that PG&E is also working on similar efforts in their territory.
man, paradise campfire was a tragedy. technology can help, but adoption takes time
A Utility swarm in formation can strategically drop loads of fire suppressant. I know the air above fire and smoke is different, but gravity is the same.
Drones hold promise. Yet, implementation lags. Prevention trumps reaction. No more delays.
