In 1787, August 6-10 were the days of “The Great Debate,” as the states argued over adopting the Constitution. The partisan divide saw the Federalists favoring the Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederation and the anti-Federalists who feared a central government would weaken states and individual rights. The inclusion of the Bill of Rights was key to the compromise that led to the ratification of the Constitution. Since then, American governing has been a balance between opposing sides and compromise. As part of Founding Forward’s work to educate and inspire the leaders of today and tomorrow, we promote the non-partisan study of our country’s founding principles and encourage constructive civil discourse. #CivicEducation #Democracy #FoundingForward
