If you specialize in oil and gas asset management, then you need to keep these two things in mind when searching for a new job: 1) Numbers speak louder than words. Especially if you're interested in working for private equity firms, data will speak volumes when it comes to showing - rather than just telling - what sets you apart from the competition. And you WILL need to stand apart from the competition since this line is work is so competitive. Focus on quantifying ROI and break down your M&A project experience. 2) Your titles will be wonky. It will be rare for you to see a job title that's right on the nose and has 'asset management' in the title. Instead, many of your ideal titles may look like this: Senior Associate, M&A Director of Business Development Commercial Advisor Senior Manager, Strategy & Planning Typically, technical production and reservoir skills are mixed in as well. Our first week of deploying a gas analyst uncovered false claims 40k. A gas plant owner had just joined the VRP and had a gas analyst assigned to help with inventory. Her first day was startling, as daily revenue failed to tally with the VRP. The usual claim by casheirs was shortages worth 40k, but further troubleshooting by our gas analyst discovered this claim as false by putting together sales from the system and inventory records. Now, profit margins are low for plant owners in Nigeria, making employee theft a heavy blow to operations.
