The current White House policy of freezing US LNG export approvals is totally nonsensical. While Europe remains on edge about its energy supply, America should be the one providing their natural gas—not Russia.

The European Union is considering further measures to rein in Russia’s economy. One of them would have major implications for gas companies operating in the Arctic region, according to The Barents Observer. On the table is a potential ban on re-exports of liquid natural gas transported to the EU from the Russian Arctic. Until now,, the LNG has been sold on to consumers in China, India and other Asian markets.. The proposed ban needs to be ratified by all EU members. If that happens, it could take effect this summer. The sanctions would be particularly damaging for PAO Novatek, Russia's second-largest natural gas producer. It operates the huge Yamal LNG facility in northwest Siberia. This article describes how the attempts of other nations to choke off Russia's economy as a result of stifling their oil and gas industry have ultimately been ineffective. This is one example of how critical energy security is to other countries, so much so that either other countries are unwilling to take massive losses by selling oil at lower prices or nearby countries are unwilling to change suppliers if it means spiking the costs of energy. Energy stability and security is directly linked to the harmony of a country, and thus it makes it difficult for people to truly sanction Russia's oil business.

IMHO, #POLITICO is still in the "cheap #Russian #gas" #propaganda bubble and is short on writing about the needlessly burned hundreds of billions of European #energy #subsidies to keep the continent alive, the sinking #competitiveness; and the simple fact that #European #industry would be somewhere else without 50 years of Russian gas supply. By the way, none of the puppet allies ever offered substitute energy supplies. On the contrary, they used #sanctions to contain Europe's economic development and worked to #disrupt European-Russian energy relations. In 2022 Nord Stream was blown up - it is only time when Article 51 will be referenced. Last, one POSEIDON (on neutral waters) is enough to liquidate Europe's main energy infrastructure and make TTF a historical item.

European gas price hike boosts Russian fuel sales, outstriping total EU aid to Ukraine: The rise in gas prices in Europe that has been attributed to Ukraine's recent invasion of Kursk is expected to add to Russian revenues from selling fossil fuels, further widening the gap between such revenues and the total amount of EU support to Kyiv.

The Baltics and Poland have consistently defended US gas interests. Poland and the Baltic states insist on a ban on Russian liquefied natural gas from 2027. The elected representatives of the Baltic states and Poland asked the EU to refuse LNG imports. In their opinion, the bloc countries should make a political decision to take such a step from the beginning of 2027. It should be noted that by 2027 new LNG projects will be launched in Qatar and the USA. Obviously, the Polish and Baltic deputies are counting on them. Poland has several regasification terminals, the Baltics have a floating LNG terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania. The deputies are not particularly interested in what will happen to other countries, especially those without access to the sea. It is worth noting that the EU refused 40% of the imported volumes of Russian blue fuel that were in 2021. But recently these supplies have been growing anyway, and now many countries in the bloc do not know what they will do without Russian supplies of network raw materials that go through Ukraine. After all, Kyiv refuses to extend the transit agreement. EU countries still have hope for the Turkish Stream and for liquefied gas from the Yamal LNG and Sakhalin-2 projects, since American sanctions have been imposed against Arctic LNG 2, and the EU will not violate them. https://lnkd.in/ePb89up9

Russia's energy sector is feeling the pressure of sanctions and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Once supplying 40% of Europe’s gas, Russia now provides just 15%, and its oil and gas profits are down significantly. While officials claim their gas exports continue due to "decency" and long-term contracts, the reality is that Russia’s economy heavily depends on energy revenue, which comprises up to 50% of its federal budget. #Energy #Sanctions #OilAndGas
