Take Steps to Stay Healthy During the Holidays Gathering with loved ones to celebrate the holidays is an important tradition for many, but it is also a time when many viruses are more likely to spread. You and your loved ones can take action to help prevent respiratory virus illnesses during the holidays and at other times: 1. Get recommended vaccines against respiratory viruses. 2. Get tested if you have signs or symptoms of a respiratory illness. 3. Talk to your doctor about whether you should get treated with antiviral medication if you have a higher risk for serious illness. 4. Use everyday healthy behaviors, including staying home when sick.

It is important to put clear efforts into preventive measures to lessen the severity and communicability of infectious respiratory illnesses. Education on prevention is very important for the family, work environment, and schools, with the implementation of preventive measures as much as possible. Some important preventive tips: vaccination when indicated and other prevention strategies such as improved ventilation, hand and home hygiene, staying home when sick, and choosing to wear a face mask. I will add: healthy eating and staying active.
