Chair/Non Executive Director & Committee Chair | Boardroom Advisor | Audit Committee | Business Development and Marketing Consultant | Governance | Corporate Strategy | Digital Transformation | Women on Boards Ambassador
Looking forward to spending the day tomorrow at Harris Academy in Battersea helping 14 and 15 year olds start preparing for interviews with Inspiring the Future https://lnkd.in/dS4f4uFV . It's a fabulous organisation and I really encourage you to get involved - you can choose your level of engagement and pick times and dates that suit your schedule to help with various programmes. In-person activities let you connect with primary and secondary schools in your local community. Virtual activities give you the chance to reach schools and young people across the country. Here are some examples of the types of programmes, more on the website: Career insight talks Volunteers talk to pupils about their career and link learning to the wider world of work. ‘What’s my Line?’ This interactive activity is popular with primary schools as it gets children thinking about what it is like to do different jobs and brings learning to life. Through guessing each volunteer’s job, it also helps to challenge stereotypes and broaden horizons. Speed networking Volunteers from different sectors and professions participate in informal Q&A sessions with young people. It’s a quick and fun way to help pupils gain insights into different careers and broaden their aspirations. Careers fairs Volunteers run a stand and speak to young people as representatives of their organisation or sector in these larger activities hosted by secondary schools or colleges. Help with CVs Volunteers may run a workshop on how to create a successful CV or provide feedback on CVs as part of wider career or employability events, helping young people prepare themselves for when they apply for jobs. Mock interviews Following the format and conditions of an actual interview, this activity allows young people to get constructive feedback on their interview skills. This is an especially good activity for volunteers with experience of staff recruitment. examples, do get in touch if you can help and like me want to help young people succeed.

You couldn’t pay me to do this.. I will ALWAYS make time to speak life into our future. Contrary to popular media, there’s no generation conflict with me. I actually REALLY ADMIRE gen Z and gen Alpha. There’s so much empathy in these generations. I give my time to events like this because they feed much more into me than the pay day I get from offering my expertise alone. There’s a give and take when you work within youth. An experience that will always be a valuable tool for my own growth. So my call to action for you is… how can you inspire a less experienced version of yourself? #volunteering #youthleadership #publicspeaker https://lnkd.in/gi7SHYbQ

We help fire engineers find the right role | fire engineer | fire safety | fire design | recruitment |
Hi 👋 I’m so happy to be going back to finding out about our committee member’s backgrounds.. so please see below Jess Oliver’s career snapshot and some great pictures too!!! 1) What do you do? - I work at a consultancy as Head of Building Safety in the UK. I use my background from working onsite and in fire engineering to help advise clients to ensure that they meet legislation requirements under the Building Safety Act. 2) What is your greatest success? - the thing I’m most proud of is the volunteering I have done to promote women in STEM; over the years I have given presentations and run workshops to different audiences including at school career fairs, primary schools and after school groups. 3) Any obstacles encountered as a woman? - Unfortunately yes; I’ve got a fair few stories of inappropriate behaviour from male colleagues in the workplace. - if any members need any advice on how to deal with harassment at the workplace, Im more than happy to offer advice or support. 4) Advice to your younger self? - Trust yourself! You know your worth and you know what’s right and what’s wrong. Listen to you and champion yourself. 5) What’s next… - I’ve got a fair amount on at the moment with a new job, house renovations and volunteering with WTF! So I’m going to get myself settled and then set some new goals when it’s all a bit less manic. #careergoals #womentalkingfire #womenempoweringwomen

Our Community Engagement team has done over 100 events this past year 90% of them in places you wouldn't traditionally expect to see information about recovery resources Brenda Briggs & Niki Curtis have been at busy coffee shops, job fairs, internal wellness fairs for employers, resource fairs, city block BBQs, Maine Reptile Expo (1200+), Machias Blueberry Festival (1000+), Sebago Days (1000+) When we say we meet people where they're at - we mean it. It's almost a little heartbreaking that there is so little awareness about the resources that do exist already around the State One thing our team has noticed in their travels is the difference in reception between visit 1 and visit 2 In places where there's been skepticism and/or avoidance of them and our table at the first event, the 2nd event is always different - more people approach them, more people have a conversations, more people are willing to learn about Deterra bags (safe drug disposal) and Narcan We're not tracking anything statistically relevant - but in cities from Presque Isle to York and from Rumford to the island communities - they've experienced this phenomenon 6 times As we grow our Community Engagement team and events - expect to see us church community dinners (more than once); at farmer's markets (more than once) When we say we make recovery from addiction visible We mean it.
