Did you know Banned Books week is coming up? This event happens annually and this year it is from September 22-28!
Banned Book week takes place during the last week of September to celebrate the freedom to read and highlight the harms of censorship. Books that become “banned” or unable to be taught nationally, have been rated unacceptable based on the criteria’s such as censorship of content, context, age groups, topics, religious viewpoints, political viewpoints, use of illegal substances, or anti-family content.
Some examples of banned books include the Bluest Eye, of Mice of Men, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, 1984, and so forth.
However, these books are allowed based on the state’s recommendations and in this case, as a former Rahway Public Schools student, I’ve read more than 80% of the books placed on the banned list. 🤓
Next Friday, September 28th from 1pm-4pm, catch me at the Coffee Box in the City of Rahway with the ILOVE2READ organization where I will be reading Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird. This book not only has in itricate story, but highlights the difficult conversations that happen in today’s life.
I can’t wait to see you there! 📚
