During this LIVE session, we’ll discuss the tasks we’ve worked on this week. We’ll also talk about the key takeaways and you’ll hear how other Dream Catchers like yourself are working through the Challenge. Make sure to check in on your accountability partner. Have they completed the first week of the Challenge? Are they ready for next week? FYI: Today is a good day to catch up on any tasks that you missed throughout the week. (Make sure you’ve pulled your free credit reports and scores because you’ll need them for future Challenge days.) Tomorrow we have a fresh new week full of tasks to help you improve your credit score!

The time it takes to form a habit can vary widely depending on the complexity of the habit, the person, and the circumstances. A popular belief, often cited from Dr. Maxwell Maltz's work in the 1960s, suggests that it takes a minimum of about 21 days to form a habit. However, more recent research suggests that on average, it takes more than two months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact, according to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology. Yet, the study also found that the actual range can vary from 18 to 254 days depending on the habit being formed, the person, and the conditions under which the person is operating. This indicates that the process of habit formation is highly individual and can significantly differ from one person to another. #newhabits #rewireyourbrain
Highlights from the 2024 PGP-USA Annual Team Meeting! This year we learned to "re-wire our thinking habits" by trying to ride a backwards bicycle. The founder of Smoke Monkey BBQ, Eddie Dean, built a backwards bicycle to demonstrate the "un-doing of our understanding." Check out some of our guys attempting the backwards bike challenge below! A little late posting this but better late than never! Here are the highlights for August! On the personal front: 1. Taking a vacation where I hardly worked at all and when I did, it was because I choose to, not because I had to. 2. My fastest A-10 race in a decade. 3. Not gaining weight while on vacation. 4. My oldest starting High School and a new travel team. 5. Youngest starting kindergarten and my middle one starting 7th. 6. Joined a carpool for both schools and it has been so awesome! On the work front: 1. Completed my SDMO recert. 2. Officially stepping down from doing support for Stewart. This was one of my 10X goals this year so it was exciting to make it happen. 3. Learning to ask two questions: “What can we learn from this?” and “What happened/talk to me about it.” 4. Finished the book Fierce Conversations. 5. Watched a great webinar hosted by Strategic Coach. 6. Watching my team at Stewart evolving and growing their skills as a team. So proud of how far we have come this year. What were your wins for August? Share away!

Shaking Heads I wrote briefly about Starling’s Final Notice yesterday and many of us are still shaking our heads in disbelief. So how on earth did this all happen? Aside from what appear to be multiple failings, including disregard for a VREQ, there’s more to this. We all know how the SMCR works, so we can assume that this story's not yet over for Starling. In Starling’s case, it wasn’t just that SMFs didn’t know what to do. The VREQ would have made that very clear. That leads us to the firm’s culture. In most cases, we know that SMFs want to do a good job, but mistakes can be made by anyone. We also know that the unexpected can happen (e.g. COVID). We need to understand the true root cause of the issues that occurred. Some might say that Starling’s systems and controls were the problem, but we need to look deeper than that. At The Culture Space we’re going to be using cases like this within our 'Learning Events' and our 'Insights Clinics' to really help you to understand where other firms go wrong and to make sure you can take the important ‘reasonable steps’ to get it right within your own firm. If you’re in any doubt about what’s expected of you as an SMF, if you currently have any issues within your firm, or you suspect that there might be issues, do something. Don't delay and certainly don’t wait for the Regulator to come knocking at your door. Be proactive. Don’t wait around for something to go wrong. Get on top of your competence and development as an SMF. Make the right moves to show your commitment to driving an exemplary culture within your firm. Take action and come and join us at The Culture Space, the SMF centre of excellence. You’ll soon find out if you’re hitting the mark and if not, we'll help you to get there. #SMCR #SMF
