“Change begins” … you couldn’t miss the slogan at the Labour Conference. Everywhere. I don’t really like slogans, they are often disconnected from reality. And the harsh realities of the challenges we face, and the growing inequities across the country, was laid bare at every corner of the conference. Despite this, my overriding feeling on returning is positivity.  On many occasions I was left in awe of the intelligence, energy and diversity of speakers, including many young and new MPs and councilors. So, change has begun and, whatever our political alignment, it is incumbent that we do our part, however we can. At Prior + Partners, and through our integrated approach to planning, economics and design, we will strive to help deliver the needed #PlanningReforms, and at/following the conference we are focusing on a number of our priority objectives, including: #StrategicPlanning - as practitioners we are helping shape strategic planning 2.0. Why does Labour love Liverpool? aka how does the Party choose which city hosts is Conferences 📌 As we rapidly wave goodbye to the 2024 political calendar, so the 2025 Party Conference season comes into sight! For public affairs professionals, it’s time to: ✅ Add the dates 🗓️ ✅ Book those hotels 🏨 ✅ Plan your events 🎤 ✅ Brace for the dreaded fee increases 💳 📌 In this context, this LabourList article on Conference venue selection is a great, background read, https://lnkd.in/egaEzCJG 📌 TD; LR - number of venues that tick all the boxes that Labour in particular now look for in a potential host is extremely limited, with the event having simply outgrown many cities (thanks Google for handy map below). Indeed, there were at least 20,000 Conference-goers in Liverpool in autumn 2024, that's a fair additional percentage of the near 500,000 locals, providing an economic boost of at least £30m. 📌 From my own, long experience, each host city comes with its own quirks – and the inevitable threat of rain 🌧️ (hello, autumn in the UK!). The smaller parties and their spring fora (or equivalent), however, offer wonderful opportunities, as I can attest, to explore other cities like Cardiff, Sheffield, Harrogate, Perth, and Inverness. Always a treat! 📌 For ease of planning, here are the main 2025 dates to remember: 🔹 Lib Dems: Bournemouth, 20–23 September 🔹 Labour: Liverpool, 28 September – 1 October 🔹 Tories: Manchester, 5–8 October 📌 Did anyone say political tourism? And who's to say what the political situation will look like by the autumn. Economy Minister Conor Murphy has taken part in a joint meeting with the NI Chamber, Cork Chamber and Dublin Chamber. The Tri-Region Partnership aims to spearhead all Island connectivity and economic growth.
