“Change begins” … you couldn’t miss the slogan at the Labour Conference. Everywhere. I don’t really like slogans, they are often disconnected from reality.
And the harsh realities of the challenges we face, and the growing inequities across the country, was laid bare at every corner of the conference.
Despite this, my overriding feeling on returning is positivity. On many occasions I was left in awe of the intelligence, energy and diversity of speakers, including many young and new MPs and councilors.
So, change has begun and, whatever our political alignment, it is incumbent that we do our part, however we can.
At Prior + Partners, and through our integrated approach to planning, economics and design, we will strive to help deliver the needed #PlanningReforms, and at/following the conference we are focusing on a number of our priority objectives, including:
#StrategicPlanning - as practitioners we are helping shape strategic planning 2.0. It was therefore great to spend time with Catriona Riddell discussing how we work towards universal coverage.
#LocalGrowthPlans - our Place Economics team is deep in conversations with combined authorities and others, working our the what and the how, and developing a robust but place specific approach.
#InwardInvestment - we are proud to be supporting a number of combined and other authorities as part of the UK Cities & Partners delegation to Munich next month for Expo Real 2024.
#NewCommunities and #SustainableNewNeighbourhoods - combining our data and spatial analytics, visioning, planning, economics, masterplanning and visualisation/graphics skills, helping to identify locations and plan and deliver #HousingGrowth in a high quality and sustainable way, delivering tangible benefits for existing communities.
#UrbanRenewal - we are leading a number of masterplans in places like Bristol Temple Quarter and Southampton Renaissance Masterplan. See https://lnkd.in/efN4zjQR.
#MissionLedPlanning
For a mission led government focused on setting ambitious long-term objectives to address complex challenges, we need a Mission Led Planning System.
However, it is a core failing of the modern system that it has become disaggregated, with delivering 'housing units' or 'employment floor space' often becoming abstract tasks.
At P+P we champion the reestablishment of the purpose of planning, to help shape health generating places. See https://lnkd.in/eZeV39sB. We are also proud sponsors of the Healthy City Design Conference 2024 - https://lnkd.in/epmMA4K2
Please get in touch if any of this resonates, to collaborate or simply to find out more.
