"Despite selling the recent investor summit on a prospectus of stability, Labour’s lack of preparation for Government means the political environment will get more dicey, more quickly than people expect." Read more about this below... and interested to hear your thoughts too.
Strong and stable? An instructor in the Intelligence Corps used to repeat the mantra that “Perfect Preparation Prevents Poor Performance” (actually, he used to include a sixth ‘P’ in there – but that one requires a few pound signs and exclamation marks to feature in an email…). Constitution Day is an American federal observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is normally observed on Sept. 17, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia. One of the important principles provided by the U.S. Constitution is civilian control of the armed forces. The principle of civilian control of the armed forces and the military's norm of nonpartisanship are bedrock features of democratic governance. While military service members are encouraged to exercise their basic rights as citizens, such as voting, those on active duty face a number of restrictions regarding their political activity. The film linked below, provided by the Army University Press, helps educate service members on the military's norm of non partisanship and why it's critical for the military to avoid the appearance of participating in partisan politics, especially during an election year. https://lnkd.in/gCPatdUY The film and the article "Instilling the Nonpartisan Ethic at the Unit Level" (link provided below) are intended to assist Army leaders at all levels in teaching and developing a nonpartisan approach to US politics among their personnel. After lots of hard work during the last semester of my masters program, I am so excited to share some of my research! This spring, my independent study focused on developing a digital project with oversite from Dr. Max Felker-Kantor. Created via ArcGIS, my story mapping project “The Realignment of Military Installations for Imprisonment” investigates how the idea of addressing mass incarceration and prison crowding with base realignment created a new convergence of U.S. militarism and incarceration. Using three case studies, my research analyzes both the local and national scale of realignment, in addition to the different ways that repurposing has manifested across the United States since 1872. A very interesting view. Even if we were to move to a greater model of civilian integration with Defence, significant work would be needed to create the stores, munitions, equipment and infra to support this new concept.
'The real issue is not about conscription [...] It is about having an honest discussion with the public on the likely significant impacts that a war would have on the UK’s way of life, its functioning as a civil society and its national institutions, such as the NHS' writes Ed Arnold in the latest RUSI Commentary.

7moIt’s probably time for Tom Watjen to step aside. He’s had at times a thankless and difficult tenure. From the videos I’ve seen and transcripts I’ve read Teddy Gottwald would be a good candidate for President of the BOV. His thoughtful insight into the current events at VMI would be a breath of fresh air. In addition, Gen Winns and his executive officer need someone who can hold them more accountable.
