Breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival. However, contrary to WHO recommendations, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed. Breastmilk is the ideal food for infants. It is safe, clean and contains antibodies which help protect against many common childhood illnesses. Breastmilk provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first months of life, and it continues to provide up to half or more of a child’s nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life. Breastfed children perform better on intelligence tests, are less likely to be overweight or obese and less prone to diabetes later in life. Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Inappropriate marketing of breast-milk substitutes continues to undermine efforts to improve breastfeeding rates and duration worldwide. #breastfeedingsupport #AwarenessMatters #stanneshospital

45% of deaths among children under age five are linked to undernutrition, as per the latest WHO report. The rise of milk banks in BRIC countries has had a substantial impact, enabling working mothers to support their careers while ensuring their children’s health. In addition, shifting trends toward breastfeeding culture and educational programs have encouraged mothers to donate milk to banks, thus expanding the BRIC Breast Pump Market. What lies ahead of the BRIC Breast Pump Market with all the government initiatives promoting maternal and child health? Women who breastfeed also have a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer. WHO and UNICEF recommend that children initiate breastfeeding within the first hour of birth and be exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months of life – meaning no other foods or liquids are provided, including water. Infants should be breastfed on demand—that is, as often as the child wants, day and night. No bottles, teats, or pacifiers should be used. From the age of 6 months, children should begin eating safe and adequate complementary foods while continuing to breastfeed for up to two years of age or beyond. #healthcare #health #medical #healthinsurance #healthbenefits #plans #emergency #healthrisk #diseases #lifestyle #family #medicalemergency #247healthcare #breastfeeding #breastmilk

When mothers receive the support they need to breastfeed their babies, everyone benefits. Improving breastfeeding rates could save over 820,000 children's lives each year. During this critical period of early growth and development, the antibodies in breastmilk protect babies against illness and death. Breastfeeding also reduces the burden of childhood illness and the risk of certain types of cancers and noncommunicable diseases for mothers. #worldbreastfeedingweek2024 #BreastfeedingAwareness #ChildHealth #maternalhealth

Breastmilk offers lifelong health benefits. Children and adolescents who were breastfed as babies are less likely to be overweight or obese, and have a reduced risk of developing chronic diseases like diabetes later in life. By allocating greater resources towards breastfeeding, we are not only saving lives but investing in the health and resilience of future generations. Because a nourished world is a #strongerworld. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek #WBW2024

We're proud to join the global community in celebrating #WorldBreastfeedingWeek. 🌎 We recognize the immense health benefits that breastfeeding provides for both mothers and infants. Breast milk contains the perfect blend of nutrients, antibodies, and immune factors to support a baby's development and reduce their risk of certain illnesses. Breastfeeding also offers significant advantages for maternal health, lowering the chances of diseases like breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and type 2 diabetes. Yet, many new mothers face challenges in accessing the support and resources they need to meet their breastfeeding goals. That's why the Health Quality Improvement Trust is committed to collaborating with healthcare providers, policymakers, and community organizations to: ✅ Expand access to lactation consultants and other breastfeeding support services ✅ Promote workplace policies that accommodate the needs of breastfeeding mothers ✅ Educate the public on normalizing and destigmatizing breastfeeding Together, we can work towards a world where all mothers have the resources they need to give their babies the healthiest possible start in life through breastfeeding. Join us in celebrating #WorldBreastfeedingWeek and let's continue driving progress on this important public health issue. 💪 #hqit #worldbreastfeedingweek #qualityhealthcare #healthqualityimprovementtrust

One very good decision my husband and I made when our baby arrived was exclusive #breastfeeding. This means that our baby will only receive #breastmilk and no other food, formula, or water until he is over 6 months old. The World Health Organization, aims for 50% of babies to be exclusively breastfed by 2025, with the current rate standing at 48%. The remaining 2% will be made up by you and me. Exclusive breastfeeding is crucial for the baby because breast milk contains all the necessary #nutrients, which adapt as the baby grows. To avoid risking the lives of babies under 6 months, it's important not to give them water, solid food, formula, or unnecessary items. Did you know that exclusive breastfeeding has benefits for both the baby and the mother? Babies who are breastfed have a lower risk of asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, severe lower respiratory disease, acute otitis media (ear infections), sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea/vomiting), and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) for preterm infants. Mothers who breastfeed their babies have a lower risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure. I've noticed that exclusively breastfed babies are often bulky just like mine and Ayuk Renette's Men are not left out in this advocacy. Just like Akem Nkwain, encourage other men to educate others on the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding. UNICEF Comfort Mussa Photo Credit: Ayuk Renette
