Public Health and Community Paramedicine through patient care, research, and development of clinical and administrative excellence.
An interesting investigation into the availability of EMS Training Programs in Georgia. Dr. Janet Fraser and Dr. Alicia Plemmons explore distance from urban areas, labor participation rates, and education as impacts that align with EMS Training Program locations and availability. I would be curious to see how other socioeconomic factors, such as higher education rates, poverty rates, and average household income, may be associated with the availability of EMS Training Programs and the number of advanced EMS certifications. You may see some parallels between the impacts that lead to communities with more health risks and communities with fewer opportunities for advanced emergency medical care.

Even as a young graduate nurse, Jed Duff was always trying to influence change and implement evidence-based practice when he saw opportunities for improvement. But when he couldn't find evidence to fix the problems he came across, Jed decided it was time to start creating his own. This was the beginning of a successful research career. Professor Jed Duff is now the Chair of Nursing for Queensland's largest hospital, the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, and continues his career-long mission to solve 'real world' problems to improve patient outcomes using evidence-based innovations. Among his current work is partnering with clinician experts to roll out best evidence for treating burns in paediatric emergency departments around Australia; trialling an evidence-based care bundle to prevent device-related pressure injuries in 12 Queensland ICUs; and researching how to mitigate and prevent occupational violence in our hospitals. As an expert in implementation science, Jed is determined not to let evidence sit on the shelf when it could be translated into practice to improve patient outcomes in our hospitals.
