📺 In Global News, Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass, associate professor of obstetrics and gynaecology and an ob-gyn at North York General Hospital, discusses the issue of suboptimal care for those who suffer miscarriages. "This is a huge problem,” she says. “A perceived lack of compassion can lead to negative experiences and anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder…which can go on for months and even years after a miscarriage.” Tunde-Byass is among the co-authors of a paper (along with Vrati M. Mehra, Salwa Farooqi and Pallavi Sriram) published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal that is referenced in the article. It is estimated that one in five pregnancies end in miscarriage. The authors determined that many people are forced to seek help in emergency departments, where long wait times and the absence of timely diagnosis and compassionate care can lead to significant psychological effects. The paper advocates for the increased use of outpatient early pregnancy assessment clinics (EPACs), as well as offers guides to physicians on better diagnosing and managing the condition. #uoft #uoftmedicine #uoftobgyn 🔗 Read the story: bit.ly/48suQJH 🔗 Read the published paper: bit.ly/3UBzQGb

Since my days in med school, defining terms has always been my call. I loved the definitions. This was one of the things that drew me to Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a speciality. I remember how questions like, "Define lie" or "Define presentation," were common during clinics and bedside teaching. When I became a doctor, I found joy in teaching medical students and junior doctors these terms. If a baby is in the wrong position during pregnancy, it can lead to poor outcomes especially if not detected early. So, when I had the opportunity to write a patient education article on this for Datelinehealth Africa Inc., I jumped at it. The challenge was communicating those technical terms in plain language. But I aced it at the end! If you're like me and love educating rural women about their health, this article is a must-read. 📢 New Defibrillation Strategy Could Transform Cardiac Arrest Survival Rates in Pregnant Women! 🚨 A groundbreaking study suggests that changing the position of defibrillator pads during cardiac arrest could significantly improve outcomes, including for pregnant women. Traditionally, pads are placed on the front of the chest in an "anterior-lateral" position. However, researchers have found that placing one pad on the front and the other on the back—known as "anterior-posterior" placement—may boost survival rates by over 2.5 times for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients, including those expecting! 📈💖 Why does this matter? During pregnancy, managing cardiac arrest requires special attention due to changes in physiology. By positioning the pads to “sandwich” the heart, this new technique may allow for a more effective current, increasing the chances of a quicker return to normal circulation (ROSC) and improving the mother’s and baby’s survival rates. 🧠❤️ While promising, positioning the pads can pose challenges in emergency settings, especially for non-professional responders. Still, the potential benefits are sparking interest for future training protocols and advanced life-saving measures in maternal care. 🚑 This study highlights the importance of evolving cardiac care practices, with the hope of new standards that better address the needs of women, especially during pregnancy. 🌟 . . #Gynecology #WomensHealth #ReproductiveHealth #CervicalCancer #BreastHealth #MaternalHealth #WomensEmpowerment #HealthEducation #MenstrualHealth #FamilyPlanning #Obstetrics #GynecologicalCare #HealthEquity #WomenInMedicine #WomenWellness #Endometriosis #PCOS #PelvicHealth #PregnancyCare #Menopause #Fertility #WomenHealthAdvocacy #GynecologicalHealth #WomensRights #HealthyWomen #WomensHealthAwareness #WomenHealthcare #GynecologyConference

Endovascular Treatment for Post Thrombotic Syndrome: Antegrade and retrograde approaches. A 32-year-old-woman had history of left leg deep vein thrombosis about 10 years ago during pregnancy. She complained about severe edema with heaviness in left leg with high Villalta score and impaired life style. Antegrade approach from mid-thigh from left femoral vein failed due to failure to wire. The approach from Jugular access with retrograde wiring from Inferior Vena Cava to left common femoral vein was successful. Stenting from common iliac vein to common femoral vein was done with good result. 2-Minute-Full-Video: https://lnkd.in/e2bC88pZ Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) Tehran Heart Center

What is persistent pulmonary hypertension in the neonate (PPHN)? PPHN refers to a serious breathing problem in newborns. It usually happens in full-term babies or babies who were born at 34 weeks or more. How does persistent pulmonary hypertension in the neonate (PPHN) occur? During pregnancy, the baby gets its oxygen from its mother and the placenta. Very little blood goes to the lungs because the blood vessels in the baby’s lungs are mostly closed. The blood vessels only open after birth when the baby takes his or her first breaths. The vessels then allow blood to travel to the lungs to get oxygen. PPHN happens when the blood vessels do not open up enough, which means that there is a limit on how much oxygen is sent to the brain and organs. This is why PPHN is so dangerous. The treatment of PPHN may include: Use of nitric oxide, which helps to dilate or open up the pulmonary vasculature (blood vessels in the lungs). Use of oxygen. Use of a special ventilator that breathes for the baby at a very fast rate. #respiratorytherapist #biomedicalengineer #criticalcarenurse #respiratorycare #medicaldevice #healthcare #medicalequipment #respiratorytherapy #biomedical #hospitalequipment #hospitals #criticalcare #nicunurse #picu #nicu #doctors #neonatologist #pediatrician #neonatology #pediatricnurse #pediatrichealthcare #pediatrictherapy #icunurse #telangana

POC βhCG testing is crucial in emergency care, enabling rapid early pregnancy assessment and timely treatment. The Radiometer AQT90 FLEX, used for over a decade, underscores its importance in acute diagnostics. #Radiometer70 #POCT #Gynaecology #Sharedexperince #paitentreassurance #clinicaloutcomes
How has our analyzer supported one of London's pediatric accident and emergency departments? In our 70 years in the acute care diagnostics field, we take pride in partnering with hospitals, clinics, and labs in over 120 countries worldwide. And one of them is The Royal London Emergency Gynaecology Unit. The Royal London Emergency Gynecology Unit (EGU) has now been successfully using the Radiometer AQT90 FLEX for quantitative POC βhCG testing for over 10 years. In the EGU, being able to rapidly assess and manage women who may be in the early stages of pregnancy is essential. Mary Gbegbaje, Specialty and Associate Specialist, Doctor EGU, "Having a POC βhCG is extremely helpful as it allows us to make vital management decisions at the time the patient is in the department, expediting necessary treatment and also reassuring her that she is in good hands." https://lnkd.in/eU4JiwJ5 #Radiometerat70
