Having declad this elevation of cementitious coatings today, we can see a clear separation between the cob. The main farmhouse (on the right) was constructed first and the linney (or lean-to) on the left was constructed later. How much later is anyone’s guess, but what this [separation] demonstrates is that when joining new cob to existing cob there will ultimately be a shrinkage gap…….cob walling of 2’ thick can take up to 5 years to cure. www.thecobspecialist.co.uk
