Having declad this elevation of cementitious coatings today, we can see a clear separation between the cob. The main farmhouse (on the right) was constructed first and the linney (or lean-to) on the left was constructed later. How much later is anyone’s guess, but what this [separation] demonstrates is that when joining new cob to existing cob there will ultimately be a shrinkage gap…….cob walling of 2’ thick can take up to 5 years to cure. www.thecobspecialist.co.uk

I’ve posted similar videos of removing cementitious renders from cob in the past, however this one (taken today at our current project) demonstrates that delaminating is the most effective and efficient way to ensure preservation of underlying historic fabrics. Often, sand/cement topcoat plaster is harder than the base coats and trying to remove both at the same time is arduous (at best) or negatively impactful at worst. #preservation #conservation #cob #doitright

Nozzles have a significant impact on spray quality and the effectiveness and efficiency of spraying operations. An effective way to manipulate spray quality is to choose suitable nozzles for the specific task. At the same time, users must also comply with label requirements in terms of a minimum spray quality to mitigate against the risk of spray drift. GRDC's standard nozzle selection guides for standard boom sprays detail the most common or widely-used nozzle types in spraying systems to help spray operators select the best nozzle for a specific task. Understanding Drying Times: The Initial Cure Stage Understanding the initial cure stage is crucial for ensuring the successful application and performance of commercial roof coatings. Let's delve into the details of drying times for commercial roof coatings: 🏙️Initial cure The initial cure marks the first stage of the curing process after the commercial roof coating is applied to the roof surface. 🏙️Process After application, the coating undergoes chemical reactions and physical changes essential for bonding with the roof surface. 🏙️Duration The duration of the initial cure varies based on factors like temperature, humidity, and the coating's formulation. Understanding the initial cure stage is crucial for ensuring the successful application and performance of commercial roof coatings. Twenty years ago, our colleague Dr. Heinz Geich, technical manager at Burghausen, painted the front of his house with silicone resin emulsion paint (abr.: SREP®). Today, we took at look to see: Does the paint still live up to what it promised back then? Heinz Geich is doing a few tests for us. For example, the abrasion test: When wiping down the façade’s surface, no chalky abrasion particles remain on the sponge – the paint still retains its mechanical strength. Any material lost to erosion? No! Test passed! And what about the paint’s beading effect, and how it fares with cracks and moss infestation? Of course, we tested these as well. Want to know how they turned out? 👉 You can find all the tests and results in our Insights Article: http://wch.ag/0gPio #coatings #construction #constructionchemicals #srep
