🎶 So go downtown Things will be great when you're downtown No finer place for sure, downtown Everything's waiting for you 🎶 Do the lyrics of Petula Clark's 1964 hit song "Downtown" still ring true today? Or is the urban "Doom Loop" scenario of lower office occupancies, declining property values, diminishing tax rolls, and high cost of living too much for some cities to overcome? On May 8, Chuck DiRocco, CRE, CCIM, FRICS, Eric Larson, Michael Smith, and Kate Thompson will discuss these challenges, outline opportunities, and share success stories that could transform your downtown. A thriving Colorado needs a thriving Denver. A thriving Denver needs a thriving downtown. Without adding any new taxes, we can invest $500 million into our downtown corridor using the same mechanism that funded development around Union Station. That means attracting new businesses and nurturing the businesses already there. That means converting unused office space into housing. And that means turning your own ideas, from daycares to open space, into a reality. This historic investment will build a vibrant downtown and create success that spills over into all parts of Denver. You can get us your Vibrant Downtown ideas over the next few weeks: denvergov.org/dda.

Forget London or Paris : Downtown Boston is the ultimate 15-minute City. It’s a bold call. But it’s a fair one for anyone who knows these cities well. I lived in London for nearly a decade and traveled to Paris frequently. The definition of the 15-minute city is that all the needs, employment, entertainment, transportation, parks, health/groceries, shopping, and sports, are all within a close proximity. Whether it’s Back Bay/Beacon Hill or Downtown Crossing or South End, you are within walking distance to at least one major park and several playgrounds, many schools, universities, groceries (it’s getting better), and 15 min bus to the airport (that matters to me). I.e there is very little need for a vehicle. Boston is often referred to as the perfect-sized city. Boston still needs to do quite a bit on the nightlife options! And we’re having discussions on what to do with all the vacant office buildings (and taxes), however, the city is making great strides in resi conversions. I don’t know another city in the US that comes close. NYC is fun (love it for work and play) but it’s not getting high marks for livability from its citizens. It’s just one more of many reasons we’re so invested in the Boston area. Thoughts? As we continue our journey of transformation and growth, our CEO, Rita-Rose Gagné, shared our Full Year 2023 financial results with EG and discussed Hammerson's strategic progress and future opportunities. The opportunities in our portfolio come from the quality and location of our destinations - the best assets in the very best prime city centre catchments with transportation hubs. “We now want to reinvest in our portfolio and continue to repurpose space, deliver the best space adapted to the new demand and also the best amenities for people who live in city centres or who come to visit. What excites me about the portfolio is this notion of buzzing 24/7 city centre assets that are living spaces. It’s about assets that have a purpose in their community.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eiTjqTMb
