Most of us know that good nutrition is important for good health. However, when we hear that an amazing new multivitamin or supplement just hit the shelves, it can make us wonder if the foods we're eating are good enough for what our bodies require and why we need supplements. A few reasons why we may not be getting the nutrients we need include: 1. The amount of nutrition in our food has been declining due to factors like soil depletion. 2. The diversity of bacteria in gut microbiome has decreased. 3. We encounter more Environmental toxins (heavy metals) than we used to. 4. Stressful lifestyle 5. When food is processed, most of the nutrition is removed. Add this all up and you get fewer nutrients in our food yet more nutrients are required, due to the current environmental situation. It would seem, therefore, that supplements are a necessity rather than a luxury. Wondering how to make your smoothie healthier? While it's true that blending fruits can increase their glycemic index by separating the fiber from the sugar, the picture isn't as simple as it may seem. Consider a banana: when blended into a smoothie, the glycemic impact may indeed rise. However, the key lies in understanding the broader context of consumption. Smoothies often contain additional ingredients like protein and fat, which can significantly alter how the body processes the sugar from the fruit. Protein and fat serve to slow down the absorption of glucose, similar to how fiber works. By adding ingredients like avocado, olive oil, flaxseed oil, or chia seeds to a smoothie, not only are you enhancing its nutritional value, but you're also mitigating the glycemic impact of the blended fruit. Carbs Are Important Experts suggest that carbohydrates should comprise slightly more than one-third of your daily diet. Numerous whole food sources of carbohydrates offer essential vitamins and nutrients, promoting good health. However, foods primarily composed of refined carbs can be detrimental if consumed excessively. Opting for whole-grain pasta or rice is advisable, as they boast higher fibre content compared to their white or refined counterparts, aiding in prolonged satiety. Not all carbohydrates are created equal in terms of nutritional value. When purchasing packaged foods, it's crucial to scrutinize food labels and opt for nutrient-rich options that contribute to overall well-being. Carbohydrates play various vital roles in our bodies: They serve as the primary fuel source for the brain. They help regulate blood glucose levels. Carbohydrates facilitate the breakdown of fatty acids. They provide dietary fibre. #carbs #carbohydrates #healthawareness #nutrition #healthyfood #healthylifestyle #healthandwellness #jpnutraceuticals #fibre
