With the increase of the small project threshold above $1MM, A/E firms have to be involved immediately in the response and recovery process. Applying continuity from damage assessment to design and through construction will save time and money. It will significantly reduce the risk of underfunded projects. It will speed funding by delivering FEMA information from a local licensed professional early in the recovery. Mission alignment is essential to a timely recovery.

In Grenada, Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Carriacou, damaging 95 percent of homes on the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The needs are immense: from basic needs, food, clothing, shelter, water, to support for livelihoods and psychosocial support. The Grenada Red Cross is distributing relief items and coordinating with authorities to restore communication and power services. The IFRC launched an emergency appeal to provide humanitarian assistance to people affected in Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados and Jamaica for the next 12 months. "The entire house seemed to be coming apart. My husband shouted 'RUN', and we raced towards the hospital. When we emerged...we were on a different island". It's been eleven weeks since Hurricane Beryl devastated St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Shanika's story still breaks our hearts. Our teams quickly mobilised, with respect going to MapAction, World Food Programme, World Central Kitchen and other key partners for their swift response. Our Responders are still there, and have been working tirelessly in collaboration with many, including working alongside the National Emergency Management Organization, Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Water Mission, Sol Relief, and the incredible people of Union Island to restore their lives and homes. This effort has been further strengthened by our recent MOU with NEMO, ensuring a more streamlined and effective disaster response across the region. Hurricane Beryl, the earliest and most powerful storm seen in the season, slammed into the Caribbean on July 1, 2024. We swiftly deployed teams to support local and international relief efforts. Our Responders completed their reconnaissance, and supported the distribution of vital aid, working alongside UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) and World Food Programme. This is what our office prepares for. This is what our Responders train for. We anticipated the demand. We were ready. Our Response: ✅ Deployed a REACT team to assess immediate humanitarian needs. ✅ Engaged in productive meetings with Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) and the UK High Commission. ✅ Supported effective aid distribution and volunteer efforts in Union Island in partnership with WFP and UNDAC. It was reassuring to see such a rapid response from the humanitarian community. Shout out and respect to MapAction, UNDAC, World Food Programme, NEMO, World Central Kitchen, and other key partners for their swift response. The early and intense arrival of Hurricane Beryl highlights the growing severity of hurricane seasons, underscoring the critical need for preparedness and rapid response. Hurricane Beryl has caused unprecedented devastation across the Caribbean, making its destructive path through Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Dominica, Barbados, and Jamaica. Local Red Cross teams are already on the ground providing support despite significant challenges in accessing the affected areas.
