From DigitalTV: Western #Europe to lose 9m pay TV subs by 2029 In its latest report Digital TV Research revealed Western Europe’s pay #TV subscriber base will be down by 8%, losing nearly 9 million subs between 2023 and 2029. However pay TV will decline at a slower rate compared to the US, as pay TV penetration will still be 53% by 2029 – down from 58% in 2023. Pay TV subscriber counts will fall for 14 of the 18 countries between 2023 and 2029. Germany will lose 2.7 million subs, with the UK down by 2.0 million, Italy 1.5 million and France by 1.1 million. Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Pay satellite TV will be the biggest loser because most DTH platforms do not offer broadband access. This is not true of Sky, which wants to convert its satellite TV subscribers to its #streaming platforms. Sky will lose 1.8 million satellite TV subs in both Germany and the UK as well as a further 1.3 million in Italy – or nearly 5 million in its five territories between 2023 and 2029.” https://lnkd.in/er5KGw7E

In a relatively short span, how we consume video content has transformed dramatically. As reported in the article below from The Washington Post, as recently as 2009, cable TV dominated 85-90% of U.S. households. By 2024, that figure has dropped to just under 50%, including digital MVPDs like YouTube TV. The lure of streaming—affordable, ad-free, and packed with an abyss of endless content—initially offered an enticing escape from pricey cable bundles. However, consumers have since found themselves entangled in a familiar trap. The dream of limitless choice at a low cost is overshadowed by an overwhelming array of subscriptions that, for many, feel like cable all over again—just more fragmented. What was once a rebellion against the rigid cable model has morphed into a complex juggling act of apps, logins, and rising costs. Ironically, the simplicity of turning on your TV to access everything in one place is now a thing of the past, replaced by the very chaos consumers sought to avoid. We've traded one substantial bill for several smaller ones, but the experience feels more confusing and, in some cases, more expensive than ever. #StreamingWars #CableVsStreaming #MediaEvolution #FutureofTV

Cable is dying. Streaming is the new cable. It’s all getting worse. The once unthinkable is happening for both cable TV and streaming. Washington Post - Great Read. "Welcome to the glorious, occasionally terrible and definitely weird moment when old TV is slowly dying and new “TV” is not exactly thriving, either. No matter what and how you watch, this situation isn’t awesome for your viewing pleasure or your wallet. You’re worse off as cable slowly dies As recently as about 15 years ago, about 85 to 90 percent of households in the United States paid for TV channels from a cable company or a satellite TV provider like DirecTV. That’s about as close as it gets to “everyone” in America doing something." FreeCast: It doesn' have to be like this, and it won't be for long. YouBundle what you want in your own personal media hub, plus get all the free streaming stuff, use it on all your devices, and Binge, Pause, Restart, and even Pay, all in one place. Bringing back 50%+ profits and jobs to the Entertainment Industry and big savings to consumers. Save money, enjoy more. #NextGenStreaming #FreeCast #NoMoreAppDiving https://lnkd.in/eJjiDrFX

XUMO CEO/FOUNDER Resigns: That really messes up this story already written. Charter and Comcast Turn to Virtual Pay-TV for Growth—The nation’s largest cable providers are facing challenges on two fronts. Their cable television business continues to shed subscribers, while broadband growth has slowed dramatically and occasionally even turned negative in recent quarters. Virtual Pay-TV bundles seem to be both companies’ answers to these trends, hummmm....delivering a lower-cost TV product to their broadband-only subscribers and leveraging the advantages of owning those broadband networks to deliver their services more reliably than non-ISP providers like Youtube TV and Sling TV. Double humm. #nextgenstreaming #freecast #streamingwars #nomoreappdiving #streaming https://lnkd.in/dvsDrbc4

The world of cord-cutting has many different types. Some want to save money, some want ultimate choice, and some just want "something different." If you're thinking of cutting the cord, have you thought about where you fit in? What is cord-cutting? The term "cord-cutting" or "cutting the cord" has been around for about a decade. #antennas #streaming

Our latest Readout has some eye-popping numbers. According to Hub Entertainment Research, 79% of U.S. homes now own a smart TV. That’s a sharp increase from just four years ago, in 2020, when 66% of American households surveyed checked that box. There’s likely no greater indicator of #streaming dominance than the rise of the #smartTV. New data on the device’s presence in U.S. households puts a finer point on the matter.

For those who are regular readers or who otherwise talk to me about television, streaming, etc. I have spent close to the last fourteen or so years, maybe a little longer, I have been writing about the decline of cable/satellite in relation to what I do. While a lot of it has centered on the PPV model and the more reasonably priced subscription models on the market, the general trend for the whole industry has been in a state of decline and part of the problem much like with Boxing hold outs, is a reluctance to change in thinking that models that are outdated are going to sustain. If cable/satellite had tried to adapt whether it be by developing technology or simply embracing streaming, and keeping things affordable, this may not have happened in the way it has. Now, it is probably not reversible at least with regard to traditional methods of distribution. In the end, consumers will always have the final say. https://lnkd.in/gHh5M3Y9 #TV #Streaming

This is another example that highlights the potential of even smaller network operators to offer IPTV products that rival those of national and multinational telcos, thanks to comprehensive end-to-end TV-as-a-Service solutions such as those from Zattoo. The underlying rational is rather easy: by combining multiple providers on a single TV platform, we leverage economies of scale and significantly lower the hurdle for individual providers to manage an IPTV platform economically. If you are an Internet service provider considering whether your customer base is sufficient to economically support an IPTV offering, we recommend that you contact us. Let's explore how our TV-as-a-Service can open up new possibilities for your business. #iptv #tvstreaming
