💡 Act now to develop tomorrow’s university metrics.   It is important for universities to get together to experiment with new ways of measuring their performance, according to Professor Paul Wouters of Universiteit Leiden, Chair of a LERU experts writing group. In the actual context where more and more universities decide not take part any more to some of the international rankings, such as University of Zurich, the League of European Research Universities (LERU) has just produced a new report on Next Generation Metrics for Scientific and Scholarly Research in Europe, with very useful recommendations for all sections of the academic community, which can be implemented step by step, or in a different manner for each university (Université de Genève). The report shows also that existing metrics can still be used, because they put them in a completely different context, harmonising and standardising them in a different way.

I am pleased to share my Master’s thesis, “The Impact of Scientific Paradigm Shifts on Human-Nature Relationship in the Structure of World History” This research examines how the Mechanistic Paradigm has shaped humanity’s relationship with nature, driving the ecological degradation that defines the Anthropocene, often justified under the guise of progress. In response to the limitations of this paradigm, it also explores the rise of the Systemic Paradigm, which redefines nature as an interconnected, living entity and offers a framework for sustainable and reciprocal human-nature relations. Drawing on the works of Thomas Kuhn, Fritjof Capra, Kojin Karatani, and Turker Kılıç, I highlight the dialectical relationship between science and society, emphasizing how paradigm shifts have historically shaped the human-nature relationship. I welcome feedback and reflections from fellow academics and researchers engaged with the intersections of science and society. Through shared inquiry and dialogue, we can advance our understanding of how paradigm shifts influence humanity’s relationship with nature and identify pathways toward a more balanced and sustainable future. JSBF is pleased to share that Dr. Awadhesh Pandey, PhD's co-authored paper titled "Efficient and alternative approaches for imputing missing data to estimate population mean," has been accepted for publication in the Quality and Quantity Journal i.e., a renowned journal and a point of reference for European and non-European scholars to discuss instruments of methodology for more rigorous scientific results in the social sciences issued by Springer Nature. This paper presents two novel classes of imputation techniques based on the logarithmic function. Each imputation technique leads to a novel class of point estimator which can be utilized to provide estimates of population mean. Dear Network, especially fellow #Operational #Researchers, I am glad to notice that the AUGMECON2 paper Mavrotas and Florios (2013) belongs in the elite class of most cited papers among all Operations Research (OR) papers produced by a Greek university of all time. Searching the publications of rating 4*, 4 and 3 according to the Academic Journal Guide (AJG) of Association of Business Schools (ABS) from UK, belonging to the OR/MS category, published by a Greek university of all time I found there are 1725 publications from Greece (I also appended the journal "Applied Mathematics and Computation" from Mathematics Category). So, in the body of world leading and internationally excellent publications from Greece in the field OR/MS of all time, the AUGMECON2 Mavrotas and Florios (2013) paper ranks as 8th most cited! The papers above that are AUGMECON (2009), CRITIC (1995), 2 IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation papers, 2 literature review papers, and the M4 competition paper by Makridakis et al. (2020)! The bar is set very high for AUGMECON2! It is already a classic in the entire OR/MS field in Greece ever! Imagine that the famous UTA method paper by Jacquet-Lagreze and Siskos (1982) (published in France) has 786 Scopus citations and it would rank at position No. 3. #research #ORMS #publications #Greece #mathematics #rankings
