So many screenwriters come to us with ideas that are best described as SITUATIONS rather than STORIES. They are usually beautifully observed, often very personal and the writer is always eloquent and passionate about why the story needs to be told. But sometimes it's the need to communicate so much about the characters and their world that ends up smothering the potential story within it. If you're wondering whether the script you are working on has the forward dramatic momentum it needs to be both a satisfying story and deliver your intended meaning, then join us for The Script Factory's FREE ONLINE WORKSHOP. Screenplay Structure for Shorts via ZOOM, Monday 29th April 6.30pm - 7.30pm In this one hour taster session we will re-think the principles of the three act structure specifically for the short film, and address some of the common pitfalls writers encounter when drafting their bite-size movies. We’ll consider: How to create immediate engagement with your central character. How to establish the details of your story world without awkward exposition. How to use a contained time frame to raise the stakes. How to manage point of view within each scene to keep us emotionally connected with the protagonist. How to generate an engaging turning point in the story. How to confront your character with CHOICES to ensure your film delivers compelling STORY beats. The secret to delivering endings that pack an emotional punch. There's still time to sign up for your free place at https://lnkd.in/e2psVghm #screenplay #scripts #filmmaking

Daily life of an indie filmmaker: 1. Write scripts 2. Try to find someone who likes one of your stories enough to be willing to fund it. 3. Keep writing more scripts. 4. Repeat steps 2-4. 5. Never retire.

I did this for Eskripts, what I posted about earlier where I'm hosting "Demo Reel" the screenplay. I'll look into getting a Linkedin page for it. #demoreel #demoreelscreenplay #screenplay #scripts #movies #films #publishing #reading #moviescripts #entertainment #art #movieblueprints #movieproducers #filmdirectors #moviemakers #filmmakers

The craft of story from James Mangold (Walk The Line, Logan, Ford vs. Ferrari.) He's on my *very* short list of current directors who I'll follow into any theater. ps. Apply this to any of your #creative pursuits and you'll be better for it. "I write AND I direct to elicit your engagement with the world my actors and crew are creating on screen. I hope to lock you in. Yes I want you to feel things but more so I want you to lean in and to ask questions. Sometimes it is not merely one emotion in a scene or sequence but several and they might be contradictory. I have learned this way of working from watching masters I admire. Some masters have been my teachers in person. Many more have been my teachers as I absorb their great work and dissect it. In practice, I write describing what I hope to see and hear. I hit carriage returns when I think I will cut to a new shot and then I type what I think I will see and hear in the next shot. It sounds quite simple and it is. I rarely use film terms like EXTREME CU or WIDE ON, etc. If it is a wide shot I see, I describe the trees and buildings (economically). The implication is clear. If it is a close up I imagine, I describe the light in a character's eyes or the way they told their head. When I direct, I don't expect all the things I wrote to be followed literally by my actors or even myself. Instead I expect myself to adapt my original intentions and plans on paper to take advantage of what is actually happening. That is not to say I abandon my intentions. It is like when you are driving somewhere. You make a plan on how to get there but then you hit traffic or a storm, or see a side road you want to explore. I feel I wouldn't be alive if I just stayed on my original route. So I adapt to what is happening. But I do this without losing the goal of where I am driving. If I am too hung up on getting things exactly as I imagined them alone at my desk, I risk missing magic that I could capture, magic that the light of the day might bring or my actor's instincts or they way they vibe with another character. So, I see writing as writing. But I see Directing as another pass of writing. And editing and mixing as a last pass of writing. If that makes any sense." https://lnkd.in/gmt9R2MR #storytelling #filmmaking #writing #directing #editing #repeat

"The difference between a movie and real life is that in the movie, the script is written first, and then it’s edited." "In many ways, the editing room is the place where the movie gets made. It’s the final rewrite." "You don’t need to be precious about your material because the magic happens in the edit." . . . . . #videoediting #videoeditor #foryou #linkedin #edits #editinglove #editingskills #contentcreater #filmmaker #adobepremierepro #editingpro #editingvideo #irfanakhters #viral #editorlife #export #filmmaking #single

New direction: exploring where cinema scriptwriting takes me. I'm giving myself until the tulips bloom to write a 2-3 min film script, with self-production and contest submission in mind. Starting from (almost) scratch...until the tulips bloom.
