Meet Luca🧡💙 With our summer distribution fundraising campaign underway we met with our Logistics Manager, Luca, to discuss the upcoming summer clothes distribution. Luca shared: “In the last few weeks, the weather has changed rapidly on Samos and we have seen that people are less interested in winter clothing. We are preparing to start the summer distribution to ensure that people receive the clothes that they want but also need to stay cool in the summer heat. Starting our summer distribution as soon as possible depends on our stock and your support.” Follow this link to donate and Support People on Samos this Summer: https://lnkd.in/eiaXSJsH #SamosVolunteers #Volunteer #StandForSamos #Greece #NGO #Refugees #RefugeesWelcome #Solidarity #HumanitarianAid #PsychosocialSupport #Community #Empowerment #SafeSpace #EuropeMustAct #SafeAndLegalRoutes

QCOSS is leading the ‘Make Queensland Fair’ campaign to shine a light on the cost of living crisis affecting everyday Queenslanders and the resulting increase in demand for front-line-services. Volunteering Queensland highlights that a direct consequence of the cost-of-living crisis is the worrying decline in volunteers who report that volunteering has become unaffordable. The increasing cost of living is undoubtedly a significant contributing factor in reducing the number of people who have the time or capacity to volunteer, as they instead require more employment to make up for an income deficit or simply don’t have the disposable income to support their volunteering. Given that close to half of all charities rely solely on volunteers to operate, it is essential the Queensland Government does all it can to enable volunteers to help those experiencing vulnerability and need in our community. Helping overwhelmed service providers reclaim their time and grow their business || Digital Business Manager || Brand Strategist || Dubsado Specialist
Storytelling time. :) While working for Generali Employee Benefits - GEB in Prague (04/2014-01/2020), I brought a hamburger-shaped piggy bank to the office. I always tried, in every workplace, to make it more humane - to make it feel a bit like it's mine. I wasn't used to carrying coins - in my home country, their value is low, so people tend to use banknotes when paying cash. So I always put my Czech coins in that piggybank and encouraged my colleagues to do so as well. Well, like I always say, all good things come to an end... so better things can follow. I loved that job in Generali - I loved the crazy-diverse people I worked with, all the things I learned in my ten years and three countries with the company, and I loved all the traveling I got to do in the many countries I supported in our region and around the world. When the time came for me to leave - I quit Corporate to travel the world and run my own EntrepreneurShip activity - I had this heavy piggybank full of coins. I knew I wanted to do something impactful with that cash. I always felt, deep within my gut, mind, and heart, that humanity cannot progress if, at an individual level, we only look after ourselves. The world is bleeding when we don't care about others, too. But I didn't know what to do. So I did what I do when I lose my compass: I looked within. Poverty is one of my greatest fears. Growing up in a post-communist country in the 90s, I have seen poverty high and low. I have seen inequality, corruption, and addiction at school, in traffic, and so on. My Mum worked for many years in an orphanage, and I often volunteered with an NGO there since I was 14 years old, so I saw firsthand what poverty does to a family and what it means not to have the means to support oneself. I felt the impact of a society that allows its people to fall through the cracks. But back to 2019. After searching within, I did the next best thing: I started searching online for a cause to support. I came across what was then a Czechs and expats Facebook group supporting a group of homeless people in Prague by giving hot meals outside the main train station every Saturday afternoon and occasionally donating clothes. If you ever thought that it takes many to have an impact, yes, you are right. But it takes just a handful of people to have the initiative and a few more to believe in them - good deeds, no matter how small, stack up. :) In 2019, I took my 300 EUR worth of coins to the bank and turned them into an idea that evolved into a campaign to buy 83 sleeping bags for our homeless friends. That Facebook group became an NGO called FriendShip Prague - it has a board, a regular volunteer group, processes in place, strategic collaborations, and so on. ➡️➡️➡️ Find out more & and support us here: https://lnkd.in/exAqm9x4 (you can donate your time, skills, and/or finances).
Thanks to YOUR generosity and our awesome volunteers, FriendShip Prague had a powerful start to 2024! I volunteered at The Hoboken Shelter, and it was an awesome experience. It taught me how even my (1 person) participation can make a difference to those in need, and importantly making things easy for everyone so that people can utilize the services effectively! I spent the day sorting through donations, which included separating three HUGE bags of bread donated by local bakeries. This task involved separating the good bread from the stale. After that, I teamed up with another volunteer and made sure that pastries, soap bars, and other food items were portioned properly so that people could easily collect and use them. Putting hygiene protocols into action makes a difference between people consuming and adhering to them. It’s all about making things easy- not just about access or education. I also helped with behind-the-scenes efforts in washing kitchen towels and aprons for the staff and volunteers. It’s not just help for the needy. This experience taught me how much of a difference even just one person volunteering can make - drops make an ocean. I also learned that one should focus on operations and make things easy for all involved so that adherence is effective. Most importantly, I made friends with other volunteers, and it was overall a fun experience that involved giving back to my community. Make an impact in someone’s life today. Be a Do-Gooder and get involved- lead through action! #Volunteering #DoGooder #CommunityService

A passionate social worker dedicated to advocating for various issues, with a strong emphasis on mental health awareness and support.
🌟 Happy World Social Work Day! 🌟 On this special occasion, let's take a moment to reflect on one of the core values of social work: the dignity and worth of every person. It's surprising how often this fundamental principle can be overlooked, despite its inherent common sense. In social work field, it's crucial to recognize that those we serve aren't just recipients of aid, but individuals deserving of respect and dignity. Recently, I've read a post on Facebook that highlight the importance of this principle, particularly during events like Ramadan. During this holy month, many food vendors generously donate leftovers to prevent waste. However, sometimes these donations are less than ideal, with food nearing expiration and poor packaging, inadvertently sending the message that recipients are receiving less-than-worthy provisions. It is incumbent upon all of us to uphold the dignity of every individual we serve. Whether we're providing assistance or accepting donations, let's ensure that our actions consistently reflect this core value. This is especially vital for those working in social work. Let's commit to doing better and being mindful of the dignity and worth of every person, today and every day. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve. #WorldSocialWorkDay #SocialWork

Tip 4 - The Christmas season can present challenges for many people. If you find yourself alone or if you have a desire to give back to your community, volunteering your time is a meaningful way to make a difference. Not only does it contribute to your own mental well-being, but it also allows you to be in the company of others. Consider lending a hand at a local soup kitchen or food bank as a valuable way to give back during this festive time. #support #supportlocal #supporteachother #giveback #volunteer https://lnkd.in/e5uRffxM
