This isn't just another grocery store; it's a beacon of hope and a revolutionary step towards combating food insecurity in the area. For those unfamiliar, the cooperative model of this store means it's owned and operated by community members themselves—giving power back to the people! This allows for critical community-led decisions on pricing and sourcing, ensuring the goods are affordable and cater to the local needs 🌱. 👨🌾👩🌾 The co-op's primary focus? Providing fresh, healthy, and affordable food options especially in areas known as food deserts. These are areas where access to such resources has been traditionally scarce, affecting many residents' daily lives. I couldn’t resist capturing this single line with two different numbers at the dishwasher counter irrespective of the fact that I had so many other eye-catchy decorations around to fill my phone’s gallery with. There are many corporate spaces where food is served to the employees by their respective food court/canteen/mess/cafetaria. I got a chance to visit one of those corporates and was literally surprised by the move they have taken to make people understand the true worth/value of the services or just the basic survival need of the humans which they are getting or entitled to/blessed upon with but millions out there aren’t. The picture attached by me below states that ‘Yesterday’s wastage was__Kg. which can feed__people.’, which broadly translates towards engraving into the cerebellum of the food eaters/consumers out there about the fact that ‘feel blessed that you are having the opportunity to binge upon food while many humans are not getting enough to eat even for a short instance in a day/week/ and even in worst case scenarios even in month’. I believe that such a move towards uplifting the mindset of the people towards food wastage and its aftereffects needs to be widely applauded and encouraged. At each instance when the individual would submit the empty or not-so-empty food plate at the dishwasher counter , he/she would come across such data about the previous day and eventually everyday & every meal later on, then it would surely make a difference if not a huge one but atleast a smaller one in short run. Also, agree or not , but it is an undeniable fact that people understand the true worth of something when the worth/value of something is explicitly stated in facts, figures & data, only then people open their minds towards betterment but even after then a small fraction of them never bother to give even the slightest of the thought towards a situation unless and until anything happens with their closed acquaintances or their personal circumstances. Here, my context revolves around food but it applies to variety of different necessities of life which counts as a necessity for everyone but unfortunately not everyone gets the opportunity to even survive with such daily basic needs of life.
