Recently I got into rugby and “soccer”. Growing up in the US and particularly in Boston it was Hockey, Baseball and then American Football, in that order (at least in my family). Now that I'm married into a French family, I've gotten into F1. Personally I found Nascar cool but a bit boring and a waste of gas. Don't feel the same about F1 and especially interested in Formula E. Formula E: Pretty cool to work at ABB who has bene a sponsor of Formula E and look forward to Season 10 in January. I love the twist, innovation, and tech that this industry provides. Some quick facts. Formula E: 1. just over a decade old. Organized by Alejandro Agag, an impressive Spanish businessman. 2. it has female drivers - which makes sense - my wife whips circles around me. 3. an F1 car can go 230 while FE can pull 200 mph. 4. FE may have fast chargers this season. 5. not as loud as F1 which is about 140 decibels but not silent so you can enjoy the sound of powerful speeds and manufacturing at around 80/90 decibles (a car is around 70). 6. innovations at Formula E might improve current offerings. 💡 The Formula 1 season may have come to a close, but this is where commercial partnerships discussions are most important ahead of a new season. 🇮🇹 One big partner missing for the 2024 season will be that of Alfa Romeo. Sauber Group will now run under a new name for two seasons for the first time in 6 years, before AUDI AG enter as a works team in 2026. 🇨🇭 Alessandro Alunni Bravi has stated there will be no Audi name or branding for the time-being. So where does that leave Sauber commercially for the next 2 years? Bravi has stated that the team name is pending a foreign commercial partnership, so there is likely going to be a new major commercial player in town for 2024 and 2025. 🇩🇪 As for Audi entering in 2026, it is going to be fascinating to see how a major automotive manufacturer can break into the sport and look to compete against the likes of Alpine, Aston Martin F1 Team, Scuderia Ferrari, McLaren Racing and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team as OEM’s. 🔁 Perhaps a new team name and some fresh ideas will settle the ship after a disappointing season, scoring 16 points and finishing in the bottom 2 for the second time in 3 seasons. 🔴 NEWS: Formula 1 is pushing teams to ensure liveries are more distinguishable from 2025, Motorsport Network reveals in an exclusive report. It’s understood that there are some cars which look to similar, especially in the night. Mercedes and Aston Martin but also Williams and VCARB have been named in the report. All four of the liveries have been singled out to be indistinguishable from certain viewpoints when running at high speed. Sources say, conversations have begun between teams and Formula 1. F1 wants teams to be more diverse, so we have different colours on the grid. This would make it easier to fans to distinguish between all teams during a race. Next to it, the FIA doesn‘t want to impose strict regulations on this matter. The topic has been tabled for further discussions at the next F1 Commission, says FIA’s head of single seater matters Nikolas Tombazis. He ensures that they will try to find a solution where every party agrees on. There is also a debate regarding the helmets. Since each driver can be recognised either by their number or the on-board camera (first driver no colour, second driver yellow), it’s still hard to differentiate between them. Formula 1 is the peak of motorsport being the most successful and viewed form of motorsport on the planet. For drivers wanting to be in F1, Formula 2 is the usual path you want to take. However, F2 is vastly different to F1. Understanding these differences can be confusing and difficult for newer fans of the sport. #Formula1 #Formula2

Formula 1 had a brilliant race today at Silverstone. I enjoy watching Formula 1, because you can see teams operate in very smoothly in very stressful conditions. McLaren Racing had 2 cars that needed to change tires. Zak Brown wasn't comfortable doing the two stops at the same time. Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team also had 2 cars that needed tires. They felt very comfortable, so they 'double stacked' a pit stop. From a work instruction standpoint, this is an uncommon scenario. Everyone needs to know their jobs and their roles. Execution needs to happen perfectly for everyone from the driver to the tire carrier. Mercedes does this double stacked pit stop very well. A an hour later, Lewis Hamilton wins the race. Lewis Hamilton is brilliant. He guided the decision making for when to pit and what tires to use. It's these types of decision that determine who will ultimately win. Great work by Lewis, Mercedes, their whole team. A whole lot of people had to execute perfectly for a perfect result. A win for Lewis in front of his home crowd and his family. It was a story book ending.

What happens to used tyres in F1 is more than a few million-dollar question. Each F1 tyre is estimated to cost over 1700 dollars. Pirelli, the sole tyre supplier to Formula 1, supplies 1800 tyres per race. As 23 Grands Prix are scheduled for the 2022 F1 season, Pirelli will supply at least 41,400 tyres to Formula 1 alone. Plus there are other tyres that Pirelli supplies to other races.
