The Russian-born ice skating coaches and former world champions Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov were on board the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Potomac river in Washington DC on Wednesday night, the Kremlin and state media said.

The sports with the best performing clubs on social media might surprise…. Ice Skating? BMX? AFL? Motorcycling? Directly comparing the social media activity of the AFL’s 1,900 monitored clubs to Dodgeball’s 9 is like comparing apples with oranges. The best way then to level the playing field is to determine the average performance of each. When you look at it from this perspective the results are more than interesting! Ice Skating for most fans per club??? The twist here is that Ice Skating looks to venues as their “clubs”. With 20 rinks around the country, they’re businesses with commercial drivers that make them socially very active and have the added bonus of being the coolest place to be in summer! The 100 BMX clubs we monitor are publishing superstars knocking-out on average over 250 posts per annum on Facebook. This translates to impressive engagement stats, coming in 7th against a bunch of serious heavy-hitters. When it comes to average engagements (reactions, comments & shares) per club the AFL is top dog at 7,500. It’s here that the sports with the biggest club footprints demonstrate their engagement power with the NRL, Basketball, Football, Rugby (and Motorcycling) all doing well. Motorcycling the best overall performer??? Motorcycling’s 185 clubs don’t post much but when they do they get plenty of fan engagement helped in part by the Finke Desert Race affiliation with its 110,000 fans. This translates to some seriously impressive post-performance numbers (engagements divided by posts) to put it top of the tabletop.....

### The 2002 Figure Skating Scandal: Ice Cold Controversy Hey everyone, Let’s take a spin through one of the biggest figure skating fiascos in Olympic history. The 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City had more drama than a soap opera, and here's the juicy scoop: 1. **The Main Event**: The pairs' figure skating competition was supposed to be a highlight. But instead of smooth glides and flawless routines, we got a mess. Russia snagged gold over Canada, even though many felt Canada had skated the better program. 2. **Judge, Judge, Who’s the Judge?**: The media wasn’t shy about calling foul. The spotlight hit French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne. Rumor had it she was pressured into giving her vote to the Russians. 3. **Confessions and Backpedals**: When the Technical Committee's chair got in her face, Le Gougne reportedly confessed she'd been coerced. But then, she flipped and said she actually believed the Russians deserved to win. Confused yet? 4. **The Fallout**: No official probe into the scandal ever happened. But Le Gougne’s career took a nosedive. She was out of the judging game for good. 5. **The Bottom Line**: Salt Lake City’s games were full of drama, and the figure skating scandal left fans and athletes questioning the fairness of the competition. Stay tuned for more Olympic tales! #FigureSkatingScandal #SaltLakeCity2002 #OlympicDrama #IceSkating #GoldMedalFiasco #MarieReineLeGougne #JudgeGate #Olympics #SportsControversy #WinterGames

Merely Constructing the Ice Rink Is Not Enough to Ensure Its Success "Unpredictable weather and mild winters often shorten the outdoor skating season. While seasonal outdoor ice skating rinks provide a valuable recreational option, there is some concern about whether taxpayers are receiving the full value of their investment. Even those who skate regularly on public rinks may not benefit as much, as the length of the skating season continues to shorten. Setting up and maintaining these seasonal outdoor ice rinks in Aurora requires considerable time and effort and can also be quite costly. Therefore, a well-sized artificially frozen outdoor skating rink could potentially be a valuable asset to our community, even if colder weather were to return."

Why post on LinkedIn on a Saturday? Because I chose to do a challenge with my team to post on LinkedIn once a day every day for 30 days! Which means I already fumbled with missing yesterday’s post. But that’s ok! Because I get to share with you one of my favourite lessons from my favourite sport, Roller Derby. When folks start out with their roller derby career a lot of them come in with zero skating experience. There’s some people who come in with transferrable skills in ice skating or hockey, or perhaps roller blading, but a lot times it’s people like me who haven’t really skated much since the roller skating unit came through at the elementary PE class. And roller skating isn’t typically easy to pick up! You have wheels attached to your feet, you might land on your wrists, your tailbone or your head if you don’t know what you’re doing! That’s why the first lesson in roller derby is how to fall safely. The second lesson is how to stop safely. The third lesson? Get back up, and get back up as soon as you can. In a derby bout, the quicker you get up means more time to pass other players as a jammer, or get back to your teammates to help make way for your jammer to pass. A single round of a bout (a jam) is only a maximum of two minutes long, and could be cut short by the lead jammer. The time you take to get back up could be critical to the impact you have. So here I am, back in on the challenge even though I already missed a day. While it’s not the same as skating, I think it makes sense since it’s not something I’m used to doing. I definitely feel like I have 8 wheels strapped to my brain, but it will get easier the more I post, and it will get easier the more I jump back into it. Here’s a throwback photo from when I used to play!

🧊⛸️💨 SPEED SKATING WORLD RECORD 💨⛸️🧊 ⛸️ Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in travelling a certain distance on skates. 🎿 Types of speed skating are long-track speed skating, short-track speed skating, and marathon speed skating. 🌐 In the Olympic Games, long-track speed skating is usually referred to as just "speed skating", while short-track speed skating is known as "short track". 💡 The International Skating Union (ISU), the governing body of competitive ice sports, refers to long track as "speed skating" and short track as "short track skating". 🎯 This sport enjoys large popularity in the Netherlands, Norway and South Korea. There are top international rinks in a number of other countries, including Canada, the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, Belarus and Poland. A World Cup circuit is held with events in those countries plus two events in the Thialf ice hall in Heerenveen, Netherlands. 🏆 Kjeld Nuis clocks 103kph to smash his own speed skating record. Kjeld Nuis slices through history once again as he surpasses the magical 100kph barrier on natural ice to break his own speed skating world record by 10kph. 💪 Dutch speed skater Kjeld Nuis tore up the record books by reaching 103kph over natural ice on Norway’s Savalen Lake. 💨 The 32-year-old Olympic champion exceeded the 100kph mark as he added a further 10kph to his existing speed record. With a three-kilometre-long natural ice rink and a Dakar Rally car with a "wind catcher" behind it to keep him out of the wind: the perfect conditions were in place for Nuis and his quest for 100. 🎬 Now witness this impressive speed skating world record. Future-proof ice skating facilities in the Netherlands! On behalf of the Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB), Hypercube has conducted an extensive study to identify the most promising locations for new ice skating facilities in the Netherlands. The research goes beyond traditional 400-meter rinks, also exploring smaller ice rink variants, such as 30x60 meter rinks and other intermediate formats. These more accessible facilities play a vital role in strengthening the foundation of the Dutch ice skating pyramid. Through a detailed analysis of population density, travel times, the current availability of ice skating facilities, and visitor data from existing rinks, the most promising locations have been identified. The result? A clear overview of municipalities where new ice skating facilities could have the greatest impact: ✅ Locations expected to attract the highest number of visitors. ✅ Locations projected to contribute the most to overall growth in ice skating participation. A key finding of this research is illustrated in the accompanying graphic, which highlights areas with the highest anticipated number of ice skating visits following the establishment of a new 400-meter rink facility. Naturally, this research also focused on identifying locations that would avoid cannibalizing existing ice skating facilities. #KNSB #IceSkating

What does go-to-market strategy have in common with pairs figure skating? For one, marketing and sales (when done right) are inextricable. The best marketing is excellent client experience and results. The best sales is excellent results and client experience. Ice skating pairs spend most of their routine NOT doing the same thing, but neither could do what they were doing without the other. When they ARE doing the same thing, it's the synchronicity that is most impressive rather than the move itself. Usually one partner has launch-and-fling power, while the other has fly-and-land power. Neither is better or worse, and both are meaningless without the other in this event. My favorite example is the Shibutanis' ice dancing performance in the 2016 World Championships to the song "Fix You" by Coldplay. Do you have a favorite? If not, I'll add a handy Ms. Mojo video in the comments so you have a few to choose from. ;) Happy Friday everyone! #icedancing #sales #marketing #theyaskyouanswer
