Scribes can help maintain a steady workflow by handling documentation, allowing pediatricians to see more patients efficiently. A study in an oncology setting found that using scribes resulted in a 12.1% decrease in the overall duration of patient visits. This efficiency gain translates to seeing more patients in a given time frame without compromising the quality of care. I do use PRO-CTCAE and all of our patients get a paper version of the form to fill out. I find it a great way to start the conversation, and I agree it isn’t perfect. I need to clarify the scores every time (someone reports pain; it might be chronic back pain not related to the cancer therapy. Swallowing difficulties might be related to dryness, lymphedema, fibrosis, or surgical changes, etc). I never use it on a weekly basis. I think the patient’s perspective on their outcomes and day-to-day life is very important. While the PRO-CTCAE tool is imperfect, I am struggling to see clearly superior tools out there. Hopefully this is a starting point for important research.

The analyses included 2549 patients from 17 trials (conducted from 1989-2016).  In this meta-analysis of patients with AEG, both preoperative CRT and preoperative and/or perioperative chemotherapy were associated with longer survival without relevant differences between the 2 modalities. Thus, either of the 2 treatments may be recommended to patients.

For people undergoing #CancerTreatment, the shift toward the use of oral medications has created more day-to-day flexibility. However, the management of complex oral treatment regimens and safety protocols has simultaneously increased patients’ burden of responsibility. A recent article in Oncology Practice Management (OPM), an Amplity Health publication, explains that a proactive, multidisciplinary approach involving multiple prescription and patient touchpoints is paramount to ensuring treatment compliance.
