OpenAI last month said it would crack down on China-based firms using its service. But OpenAI’s tech is available in China via Microsoft's Azure. https://lnkd.in/eyVWTbP2 From @QianerLiu and @JuroOsawa

OpenAI AI models accessible on Microsoft Azure despite China ban. #AIaccess 🤝 Download 1 Million Logo Prompt Generator 🔜 https://wapia.in/1mlogo 🤝 Follow us on Whatsapp 🔜 https://wapia.in/wabeta _ ❇️ Summary: OpenAI blocked access from China on July 9, 2024, but Chinese users can still access OpenAI's AI models through Microsoft's Azure cloud computing service. Microsoft's Azure China offers a loophole for Chinese businesses to continue using OpenAI's services. Microsoft has a deep cooperative relationship with OpenAI, developing AI technology together. Chinese users were urged to migrate to Azure by Microsoft's Chinese subsidiary when OpenAI announced the block. Azure in China has a different infrastructure configuration but still allows the use of OpenAI's AI models. Hashtags: #chatGPT #OpenAI #MicrosoftAzure

Interesting post. Azure's GPT-4 API outperformed OpenAI's by an average of 2.8 times across different test conditions. Azure also showed more consistency in token generation. For businesses prioritizing performance, Azure seems to be the better choice. Other notable factors include Azure's additional privacy controls and more consistent responses. OpenAI showed variations in token generation even at a constant model temperature. These variations could impact application behavior and should be considered alongside performance metrics. While there are some rumors flying around about Microsoft diversifying away from OpenAI in the near future to other large language model providers, or maybe even their own LLM, in my opinion, it's just a smoke screen on a much more important reality. If you read the transcript of their last earnings call which I attached below in the first comment, their entire AI strategy revolves around hosting and infrastructure, not the models themselves. With the recent investments from Amazon and Google, this seems to be the general strategy among the big players. being a One-Stop shop for all AI needs, especially compute and deployments is where the money is, not any one specific model. Takeaway for people on the application level: choose your cloud provider and implementation layer carefully, and build as much as you can to be cloud agnostic. Building your infrastructure to be too heavily dependent on any one of them may be a long-term relationship that you are not ready for, and may hold back your AI development. It's important to listen to the smart money: infrastructure is the real battle for the future of AI, not the models.

Contrary to popular belief, Apple’s personal AI does not rely on OpenAI. OpenAI integration is an optional layer for accessing internet-sourced knowledge, with clear notifications when your data is shared. The core functionality lies in the tasks you can automate, accelerate, and synthesize using the data on your phone. It’s your phone, your data, your personal AI—completely independent of OpenAI. Even the Cloud is personal. All that talk of Apple selling out to Microsoft through OpenAI is not true.

M&A in AI is currently a non-starter because of government regulation. But the big tech players are using their position in the market to reap M&A-style benefits anyway. Basically, what’s happening is that Microsoft, Google, and Amazon own all the computing power because the majority of cloud services belong to them. So Microsoft invests in OpenAI, and OpenAI runs on Microsoft Azure - sending the money they make right back to Microsoft. Google is doing a similar thing with Anthropic, which runs on GCP behind the scenes. No need to outright buy these AI companies when they’re operating as part of their business - it’s a smart workaround. This trick might not last - as the regulatory environment changes, we’ll see if it can hold up. But for now, the titans of tech are still pulling the strings.
