#shoutoutwednesday Do you know a veteran that has less than a 40% disability rating and needs in home care? Or perhaps a Surviving Spouse of a Veteran?   Veterans are the most self-reliant group of people I know.  We always make do with what we have and what is right in front of us.  We are the proclaimed MacGyver’s of the country.  We are the only group of people I have found that can rely on each other at any time.  We are America’s glue!   What happens when that glue begins to age and doesn’t have the same support from the country they would have died for?  They get forgotten, don’t get the healthcare they need, the support turns into a chore.   There is a solution!  Veterans First is a company started in a garage by a veteran John ( Moz ) Mozdzien, and Eric Sepesy owner of a home care agency.  Lack of income is a serious issue for aging veterans and this is where Veterans First helps.  They work with the VA to get them in home care paid through the VA.    Right now the states they service are Pa, WV, NC, GA, TN, MI OH, WI, but they are expanding!  Take a look at the website, you can donate, partner, or even become a provider!     This program could help you in the future, so let’s get this out there.   https://lnkd.in/g33FQrVC   #winningtogether #military #veteranshelpingveterans #airforce #army #coastguard #marines #navy #spaceforce

Enhancing the Lives of Wounded Veterans through "Mobility is Freedom" In 2015, Mobility is Freedom was introduced by Wounded Warriors Family Support to provide combat-wounded veterans with grants and customized vehicles. The initiative's primary objective is to improve the quality of life for wounded veterans by providing them with greater independence in their daily routines. Our belief is that by providing a vehicle that is tailored to their unique needs, they will have the freedom to live a fulfilling, productive life with their loved ones. These vehicles are specifically designed to cater to the requirements of disabled veterans due to combat operations. I know. I know. I didn't want to ask for help either. It's a sign of weakness, right? I mean.... ...right? In uniform we're bred to believe we're super-people. We don't need anyone to get the mission done. I was very much an "I got it," or "too easy" guy. The problem with too easy? It's never too easy. As you begin your military to civilian transition, please, please, please don't try to figure it out alone. There's an army of veterans on LinkedIn and local resources around where you live to help you. The thing with thinking you can "do" transition on your own is you are NOT the subject matter expert. You don't know what you don't know and sometimes you have no idea what questions you should even be asking. It's normal. But here's the first test of whether you're truly dedicated to a successful transition. YOU have to ask. In the military if you need to know something, someone is going to tell you. That's not how it works in civilian life. YOU are responsible for you. So flex those independence muscles, and ask for help from veterans who've transitioned, mentors, trusted friends, and programs designed to help you. In the comments, I'm adding my very favorite program which changed my life. If you've transitioned and leaned on a good program or organization, add it so others can use it. Friends, you don't have to do it alone. It isn't cool, bada$$ or macho to do so. The weight of your transition is heavy. You've got an entire community willing to lighten the load. But... YOU have to ask. And the higher ranking you are, the more this post applies to you, because you're used to having all the answer. Trust me when I tell you, when it comes to transition, I don't care if you're a general officer, a command master chief, or an Airman basic.
