This insightful report from AoC and the University of Derby focuses on the value of enrichment activities that prepare students for the transition from education to employment. On reflection it does seem such approaches could be continued or adopted by organisations with employees in their early career. Looking at an organisation's employee career development offering through an enrichment lens could be really helpful. Here are a few ideas:   1. Think about how to help early career employees to apply and build skills   Building and strengthening key employability skills helps employees establish a well-rounded set of skills they are confident to use in the workplace, but which are valuable both professionally and personally.   2. Develop opportunities that are accessible to all employees Regardless of employee background or department, making opportunities genuinely accessible fosters more equitable growth. Opportunities with minimal pre-requisites can be designed to be accessed in different ways, regardless of physical location or specific in-work experience.   3. Encourage employees to take initiative and lead projects or groups   This is especially valuable when opportunities are aligned with an individual’s interests and career aspirations. Some early employees may feel reticent about volunteering, making suggestions or approaching more senior colleagues, which makes it so important to understand the expectations and culture of their workplace. Hybrid and remote working could sometimes exacerbate this. And it helps to bust myths and ditch “unwritten rules” for more openness and transparency.   4. Encourage diverse development options   Mentorship programs, cross-departmental projects, careers weeks, and external workshops can cater to varied interests and learning styles. But the value of encouraging social, creative and sporting activities between work colleagues is also recognised as valuable by many employers.   5. Connect development programs to broader organisational values and goals.   By explicitly signalling these linkages, those in the early stages of their career can gain a stronger awareness of career pathways and the intersection with organisational strategy, culture and values.   6. Measure impact   Insight from feedback surveys, reviews, and career progression tracking can help organisations continuously improve and innovate the offerings to meet the evolving needs of employees.

Controversial opinion, I still like to watch the Apprentice. The candidates can be funny but I think Tim Campbell is a fantastic asset to show and a great role mode. So I was excited to see him talking about T-Levels. Just kicked off a new semester with St. John Henry Newman Institute apprentices. We were discussing Mortimer Adler’s essay, “Labor, Leisure, and Liberal Education.” One of the key takeaways: the end directs the means. The end of liberal education is to make free men, and in the context of the Catholic tradition: to know, love, serve God in this life, and to be with Him forever in the next. According to Adler, liberal education makes use of three modes of perfection: the physical or gymnastic, the moral, and the intellectual. It may be appropriate to add a fourth: the spiritual. It’s on these four pillars that a school rests in achieving its end: preparing the child in light of the end of all man.
