Can we transform hostile urban spaces into havens of inclusivity and warmth? I'm thrilled to share my research paper , which dives deep into the realm of hostile architecture or some may say DEFENSIVE ARCHITECTURE and its often overlooked impact on our communities. This paper uncovers the stark realities of urban design and challenges us to rethink and reshape our public spaces. 🚧 From Hostility to Hospitality: Exposing the hidden biases and social implications of hostile architecture. Proposing transformative solutions to turn these harsh environments into welcoming, livable spaces for all. Join me in reimagining our urban landscapes to foster compassion and inclusivity. Let's build cities that welcome and embrace everyone. #UrbanDesign #Architecture #InclusiveDesign #HostileArchitecture #LivableSpaces #CommunityBuilding

Lighting plays a crucial role in how architecture is perceived and experienced. The lighting conveys or interprets the significance of the space. The subtle glow of lights, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere, create ambiance, evoke emotions, and influence the overall atmosphere of a space and compliments the architecture. Lighting that doest overwelm the space, another great example of Facade lighting.
Excited to share a glimpse of our new mosque project in Monroe! This beautiful design embodies both modern architecture and cultural heritage, creating a welcoming space for all. We can't wait to see the community come together in this serene and inspiring environment. #EGA_Architecture #EG_Architects

Biophilia connects us to place and landscape. We also know that place and landscape are both cornerstones of our Indigenous Australian culture. It raises an important question as to whether biophilic design can meaningfully connect the built environment to the world’s oldest living culture. Bunji Place, designed by fjmt Architects, is a community and arts building located in Narre Warren in suburban Melbourne. It explores this question specifically, through the use of many biophilic principles as well as the project's naming after Bunjil the Creator. The architects used a grand woven timber structure, with a sense of flow and movement, as the entry to the building. A generous gesture, enhancing light and a feeling of connectedness to the outside. The natural materiality and its formal reference to a wedge-tailed eagle have a direct relationship with the natural world and our indigenous history. Do you think that biophilia is a tool we can use in design to better tell the stories of our Indigenous history? #NetworkingEvents #TheArcAgencyAU #AustralianDesign #AustralianArchitecture #ArchitectureCommunity

What is the role of historic preservation in modern architecture and planning? As an architect deeply committed to the preservation of our architectural heritage, I believe that it plays a vital role in how we should plan modern architecture. It's not just about preserving old buildings; it's about honouring our cultural identity, fostering sustainable development, and inspiring innovative design. When we preserve historic buildings and landmarks, we're not only conserving physical structures; we're also preserving the stories and memories of communities. These buildings serve as living monuments to our collective past, reminding us of where we've been and guiding us as we move forward. In urban planning, historic preservation is essential for striking a balance between progress and preservation. By reusing existing structures rather than demolishing and rebuilding, we can create more sustainable and resilient cities. It preserves the unique characteristics of our changing neighbourhoods. From an economic perspective, historic preservation can be a powerful driver of local development. Well-preserved historic districts often become cultural hubs, attracting tourists, supporting local businesses, and increasing property values. By investing in preservation, we're investing in the economic vitality of our communities. As architects, we can find inspiration in the craftsmanship, materials, and styles of the past. Studying historic architecture not only informs our design practices but also encourages us to think creatively about how to blend tradition with innovation in our work. But perhaps most importantly, historic preservation is a collaborative effort that brings together architects, planners, historians, and community members. By working together, we can ensure that our architectural heritage is protected and celebrated for generations to come. In my work, I'm proud to be a part of the conservation of heritage buildings, advocating for the preservation of our architectural treasures and the stories they tell. Let's continue to honour the past as we build for the future. #HistoricPreservation #HeritageConservation #Architecture #UrbanPlanning #Sustainability

“When we talk about the waterfront, it’s helpful to have an awareness that our waterfront is really one of our most vulnerable typologies.” - Dena Prastos, AIA In an in-depth interview on the AEI Resilience blog titled, “Exploring Waterfront Design And Resilience,” our Founder & CEO Dena Prastos, AIA discusses the critical role of resilient waterfront architecture including: ➡️ Understanding the unique challenges posed by waterfront properties. ➡️ Incorporating resilient design features that can withstand extreme weather events and protect the property and its inhabitants. ➡️Balancing the need for protection with the desire for aesthetic appeal, ensuring that the property remains an attractive and functional space. ➡️Engaging with the community and stakeholders to ensure that the design meets their needs and concerns. On World Architecture Day, we ponder the theme "Empowering the next generation to participate in urban design". Let's imagine our cities as living canvases, where each building tells a story. Emerging talents are not just sketching the future; they're also tasked with reviving the colours of our architectural treasures. To achieve this, they employ a form of invisible architecture, where subtle interventions highlight the beauty of our heritage while aligning it with contemporary requirements.🏙️✨ 🔍 Curious to see how innovation fuels Lemay's heritage projects?
