The conference fog has settled and something unexpected happened... 🌫 🌫 ☀ As a standard practice our company attendees assemble the information they gathered and synthesize their thoughts for sharing with our larger team. Some of these items are small takeaways from a learning lab or an intro/something to be explored. These are great for the team and one of the primary reasons we attend numerous conferences throughout the year. When I do my shareback it's in forms of what I thought of the tech offerings... With that said, I typically have moderate to low hopes on identifying a new service provider. That is to say, our team knows many ( not all ) of the players and offerings and believe we have a firm grasp of what is out there. That leaves us evaluating how products are evolving or more importantly is there something specific we are looking for. While we always have the list of areas of opportunity in the back of our minds, rarely do we find someone that aligns tightly on those items ( another reason we build much of our internal tooling ) That was different this time... I had 2 major areas of opportunity and I walked away with 2 new vendors that we will be moving forward. I'm going to save the who and what for post implementation as that will make for a good spotlight on a future #freighttech Tuesday. The point of this post isn't so much the what, but the how, both of these new vendors introductions are a result of years of networking. The one company is founded by 2 folks we have known for almost a decade and they niched down to a VERY specific solve. The other was an intro from another partner vendor that had overheard me say I was struggling with a specific problem and they knew this company solved that problem well. Because these came via a trusted network it sped us past any sales pitches, looking for gotchyas, and more importantly meant we could overtly state the issues to be solved in discussions. This means we are already on an implementation route with the vendors and will realize the value much quicker than normal. Main takeaway: Invest in your network and provide value to others with no expectation of anything in return and it will pay dividends, oftentimes when you least expect it and need it most.

Are you overwhelmed by tech conferences? 🤯 The budget is tight, and you're feeling FOMO? 💸 🥑 Let me share with you some DevRel tips for this conference season! In the world of conferences, it's crucial to know your goals before diving in. Clarity is key, whether showcasing a new product or just making your mark. 🎯 Define Your Purpose: Understand what you want to advertise. Is it a groundbreaking tech? A new feature? Knowing your message is the first step to success. 👩🏽⚖️ Judge yourself: Do you have resources to back your claims? Your tech is awesome, but how is your website? Is your documentation ready? Do you have space for the community that might come? What do you offer to the people who will get to know you? Being unprepared for a conference that costs a lot is the biggest mistake you can make. Yes, business cards are nice, but where are they sending the potential investor, partner, or user? 💰 Budget Wisdom: If funds are tight, you don't have to join every event. Join one and make it count, have a speech or workshop there, get one package, but good. Later you can join other events for the sake of networking, rather than promoting the company. That will still keep you in the loop. 🌐 Strategic Choices: Choosing conferences can be overwhelming. Resist the urge to join every event. Instead, craft a strategic plan to make your impact felt without draining the budget. 🔄 Quality Over Quantity: Remember, it's not about the number of events but the quality of your presence. Layoffs are not the solution; strategic choices are.
