ATTN: Professionals with 10 years or more of professional experience... You may only get paid to do one job, but you actually have two jobs. The second job is your role as a mentor for future generations and the responsibility to both pave a path for professionals who come after you and take time to share career mentorship with those just getting started or early in their careers. Don't ignore that private message from younger professionals just looking for advice and direction. Reply to that message, or better yet, take a call with them. Share what you have learned. Share your failures and help them avoid making similar mistakes. Share your successes so that they too can benefit from that knowledge. Not every young professional is hitting you up for a job. Some of them just want/need guidance, inspiration, or just to be heard. And for those of you who are unsure and in the early stages of your career, know that I too was once in your shoes. I sent hundreds of Linkedin messages begging for mentorship that unfortunately went unanswered. Don't let that deter you. Seek mentorship. Collect multiple mentors. Take little bits from each of them. And someday those little bits will add up to a whole lot of what will make you a well-rounded professional. I promise you.

"Fail fast, fail forward." This is a methodology that removes the fear of failure and creates safe spaces to learn and grow. This is a methodology that inspires and empowers. This is a methodology that supports and encourages greatness from the people you lead.

Leadership Truth: Saw this on a page and it was exactly what I was thinking about, especially leading a team who might be new at something, and at time face challenges as they grow. Sometimes it might be from a mistake made, or sometimes a curt and insensitive remark from someone who seems to ‘know better’. This is what i always tell them, also a reminder to self at times. ‘The barrier many of us face in our professional journeys is the fear of trying something new because we don't feel 'good enough'. It's a common feeling, one that often holds us back from exploring uncharted territories in our careers. But here's a truth we often forget: nobody was born an expert. Every skill we now take pride in was once foreign to us. We acquired our abilities through a mix of practice, perseverance, and yes, a fair share of failures. The journey from novice to proficient is paved with learning opportunities, not just in success but also through the insights we gain when things don't go as planned. So, if there's a new skill you want to learn, a new role you wish to try, or a new project that excites yet intimidates you, remember this: your potential is not fixed. It grows with each new experience, with every challenge you dare to face. The question isn't whether you are good enough now; it's whether you're willing to grow into the person who is.’ Let's embrace the beauty of learning, the resilience in failing, and the joy of growing. After all, every expert was once a beginner. If you are the seemingly ‘expert’ in your field, remember this and be kind to the ‘novice’ willing to work hard and has the capabilities to grow to being an expert. If you are a ‘novice’, have courage and have no fear and begin your journey of growth. #careergrowth #learningjourney #nofear #professionaldevelopment #embracechallenges

Over the past two years, I’ve learned some valuable lessons that have helped me not just survive but thrive in the corporate world. You can use these points for a quick glance or read through thoroughly to see how they can apply to your journey: 1. Don’t take everything personally. Not everything is about you, and people often act based on their own issues. 2. Ask for help only after you’ve exhausted your own resources. Doing the groundwork builds your knowledge and confidence, but don’t hesitate to reach out when needed. 3. Make time to sharpen your skills. Continuous learning keeps you relevant and confident in your field. 4. Show gratitude whenever, wherever possible. Appreciation creates a positive environment and strengthens relationships. 5. Find a mentor, but make it easy for them to guide you. Don’t expect anyone to drop everything for you. Come prepared, ask specific questions, and respect their time. 6. Celebrate small wins. Progress, no matter how small, deserves recognition. This is an open ended post feel free to suggest anymore lessons which you think are worth sharing.

DAY 5 - "FOLLOW WHO KNOW ROAD!" Having mentors in your chosen field or career path can offer numerous benefits and contribute significantly to your personal and professional development. I am a substantial living witness to these many benefits, and I'll take the liberty to outline some of them below; 1. You Get Adequate Guidance and Advice: Mentors provide valuable insights and advice based on their own experiences. This helps you navigate challenges, make decisions, and overcome obstacles without having to repeat their mistakes. 2. Shared Knowledge and Expertise: Mentors typically have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in their respective fields. Learning from their experiences can help you avoid common pitfalls and accelerate your own learning curve. 3. Seamless Networking Opportunities: Mentors often have established networks in set industries. Through your mentor, you can gain access to valuable connections, partnerships, career advancements, or opportunities for collaborations 4. Personal Growth: Mentors can support your personal growth by providing constructive feedback and help you identify areas for improvement. They may also encourage you to step outside your comfort zone, fostering resilience and adaptability. 5. Career Guidance: A mentor can assist you in setting and achieving career goals. They may offer advice on career paths, skill development, and opportunities for advancement within your chosen field. Thank you for reading ❤️

"I miss great opportunities, because I'm afraid to make mistakes" This is a very common theme in my mentoring conversations. Smart and capable individuals who feel like they are stuck in their careers. When we debug their situation, we usually find out that it's not for the lack of good opportunities. On the contrary, they actually have great opportunities ahead of them (promotion opportunities, taking ownership of a domain, new job opportunities, etc.) – and they decline them. When we dig deeper it usually comes down to the fear of making mistakes. These ideas are so rooted in our culture and our education system: - there's one way of doing things - there's one correct answer - every mistake is bad Growth is only possible when we understand that there's more than one way of doing things, and that we are ALLOWED to make mistakes. I'm not trying to glorify mistakes. Ideally they should be avoided. But unfortunately mistakes are an inevitable part of success, and the sooner we accept it – the better.
