In 2024 I made a pledge to myself to make a difference. ⭐ I'm determined to work towards that in a way that will impact more than just the industry I work in, so I am super excited to be supporting Apprentice Decent Wage Pledge and helping them in their mission to campaign for better, fairer more balanced wages for apprentices now and in the future. 🖤 I've chosen to support Apprentice Decent Wage Pledge and #BackTheFuture to make apprenticeships inclusive not exclusive. ⚖️ Whether through lower socio-economic backgrounds, or having a family or dependents to support, mid-career career-changers or not living locally to where an apprenticeship is based meaning increasing costs related to relocation and the uncertainty that can bring, just about anyone can be impacted by low apprenticeship wages. So I'm not only asking the games industry folk in my network to listen up, I'm asking employers of all sectors, particularly those running apprenticeship programs, but also those thinking of running programs to be part of the change. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we recently highlighted the FCSA Donator Network which allows companies that will never access the funds they have set aside as part of their Apprenticeship Levy responsibility to ‘charitably donate’ them to a central pot of funding which other companies can then access through application. Naturally, through Brookson’s Umbrella service, funds have accumulated in this way over a number of years, which is why we have donated to the program ourselves. Believing in the value of apprenticeship and training, and the added value this will, in turn, bring to the economy, we alone have cleared 90% of the scheme’s £1 million target as we have donated a massive £900,000 to the pot. With so many opportunities that can be created from this initiative, it’s important that as many companies as possible – that will never use these funds otherwise – get involved with the scheme.
