Happy Monday everyone! I need your wisdom please. It’s a question about costing online events for undergraduate students. Following requests to run support webinars for dissertation students through their final year I plan on hosting monthly sessions from September through to April to coincide with dissertation milestones and provide instruction and reassurance that will compliment existing tuition and supervision. Sessions would be 1.5 hours each, include answers to attendees questions, and provide resources linked to the topic under discussion (e.g. selecting a question, planning your time, or ethics). Here’s where I need your help. I can’t decide what would be fair to charge. I want to include an option so low income students don’t have to pay at all, but want to include a fee for those that can afford it. What would you suggest as a charge for each session? Would you recommend a discount if people booked for all 8 sessions? Or a “pay what you can/want” option? Something else I’ve not considered? Please accept this silly cat as a thanks for your thoughts and suggestions 😊

Yesterday in Washington, DC, CAAHEP President Donald Balasa, JD, MBA, delivered an enlightening session on "Beyond Gainful Employment: Other Title IV Rule Revisions that Impact Quality and Eligibility" at the prestigious CHEA/CIQG Annual Conference. The landscape of higher education and the implications of Title IV of the Higher Education Act (HEA) are evolving, and Balasa's talk shed light on crucial changes every professional program must be aware of. Key takeaways include: -Ensuring graduates are eligible for mandatory state licensing/certification exams. -Avoiding the inclusion of courses that are unnecessary for meeting state licensing/certification requirements. For students to benefit from Title IV assistance, these stipulations underscore the dual necessity for compliance and quality in the curriculum of our professional programs. This conversation is vital for maintaining the integrity of our educational frameworks. Join the dialogue and share your perspectives on how these revisions may shape the future of professional education!

THE SOP IS NOT ABOUT YOUR EPIPHANY OR LIFE'S STRUGGLES BUT ABOUT YOUR POTENTIAL Statement of Purpose (SOP) is often misconceived as a platform to share tales of hardship, struggles, and personal battles. While these aspects may have shaped your journey, they do not define the true purpose of an SOP. Your SOP is not about where you were born, your socio-economic background, or the challenges you've faced. It's about your academic and professional aspirations, your passion for your field, and your potential to make a meaningful impact. Admissions committees and reviewers seek to understand your intellectual curiosity, research interests, and career goals. They want to know how you can contribute to their institution, not how your life's struggles have defined you. Your SOP should showcase: - Your academic achievements and research experience - Your knowledge and understanding of your field - Your research interests and goals - Your fit with the program or institution - Your potential to excel and make a position. The Graduate School SOP is your opportunity to showcase your strengths, skills, and aspirations. It's about demonstrating your potential to succeed, not about seeking sympathy or special treatment. So, focus on highlighting your achievements, interests, and goals, and let your SOP truly reflect your academic and professional potential. At the July Scholarship Webinar you will learn all about creating winning Graduate School Docs. See flyer for details

The second leg of my academic journey to match my education level to my experience level is just about to end. Through my journey, I've come accustomed to really get into my studies to do the not only show competency, but complete mastery of the core concepts being taught and applied. This achievement is the result of my passion to learn. In other words... I'm a big nerd and I like to learn & study about everything and anything I get my hands on. Been this way since high school and there's nothing that's going to change me otherwise. Learning and growing has always been a big part of me, which has resulted in some awesome achievements while opening up new spaces for others to explore, expand, exceed in their environments in the last 20 years. Taking complex concepts and breaking them down to simple terms and tasks for others is one of my biggest strengths. Making hard things simple and easy to digest is the reason why other flourish around me. They get to enjoy my simple checklists and how-to explainers and training to apply in real-world scenarios, and find continued success and support for more senior positions and roles of responsibilities within complex agencies and organizations. That's why I excel in self-development, training, and education. It's a necessary part of my passion to help & teach others in the future, which helps others and the environment around us. So I'll keep achieving more so I can teach, inform, and educate more, so your teams and achieve more for your teams in the future. In closing, I'll keep nerding out for the greater good of others.

One of the tasks that I was asked to complete time and again as a Teaching Fellow at UNC Chapel Hill, as an MAT student at Duke, and as a candidate for my National Board certification was to write about and explain my "teaching philosophy." Now, I'm giving myself the assignment and reflecting with my teaching partner about our shared philosophy and how we make that philosophy real through our norms and guiding principles. #nbct #teachingandlearning #philosophy
For this week's post, we focus on explaining and iterating upon one of our guiding principles - the who is more important than the what. Relationships matter in the business of education, and by putting the who over the what, we ensure that real learning can happen and last. https://lnkd.in/eqYBVGjR
