I help nonprofits create stronger relationships with donors that grow fundraising and impact, and work with them in recruiting new team members. Weekly "Dan's Tips" for nonprofit fundraisers on the website.
Yesterday was another one of those days that I loved being a nonprofit fundraising and recruiting consultant. First, yes, we felt the earthquake! It was the strongest one I have felt since moving here nine years ago. And it lasted several seconds. Fortunately, it wasn't strong enough to cause harm. Before the earthquake, I was working on a gratitude list. This one is specific to other consultants/nonprofit professionals doing amazing work to strengthen nonprofit missions. The list is long, and I want to start sharing these individuals with my community here so you can strengthen YOUR mission. Today I'm focusing on donors, data, and newsletters. Donors. I love monthly giving. In my client mission area (refugees, immigrants, domestic violence, unhoused youth, animal rights), it's the most fun part of individual giving. A rock star in this area is Dana Snyder. Check out one of her Monthly Giving Summits. Data: I learned how important data is to fundraising in my first director of development job. T. Clay Buck, CFRE is a rock star in nonprofit data, especially how it relates to individual giving. Connect with him and read his posts. Newsletters: I don't like to receive a lot of newsletters. If I have signed up for one and then find myself just deleting it when it arrives in my inbox, I unsubscribe. There are a few that I look forward to, and read every bit. Ephraim Gopin, MBA, and John Walsh author two of these. Check their newsletters out. I'm an always-learning type of person. If you are too, these four people will be your jam.

https://lnkd.in/eptu8K4S You'll hear a Mark Twain quote in this episode. "The two best days are the one we are born and the one where we figure out why." That quote captures this episode with Texas EquuSearch's team as they tell their stories, how they found this organization, and how honored they are to find their why. This is the first half of the interview with Tammy Phillips, Director – Business Operations; Angelina Farris, Deputy Director; Ken Sandor, Field Operations Manager; Mary Allbright, Research Analyst and family Liaison; and Mark Edwards, Field Operations Manager. This is part of the MrBallen Foundation series, introducing you to non-profits and volunteer opportunities nationwide. About TXEQ Texas EquuSearch is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer search and recovery organization. Texas EquuSearch never charges a family or law enforcement entity for their services. Headquartered near Houston, Texas, resources have evolved far beyond the original horse-mounted searches. Today, searches include the use of ground searchers, side scan sonar, ground penetrating radar, boats, aircrafts, drones, and ATVs. Many law enforcement agencies across the United States call on the resources of the organization’s highly skilled searchers to assist in their lost, missing or murder victim cases. Throughout the years, Tim Miller and the organization have received numerous awards from law enforcement agencies and grateful community groups, recognition from media partners, and countless thank you’s from families of missing loved ones. Texas EquuSearch has assisted in thousands of cases throughout the US and abroad giving some form of resolution to distraught families as well as closure to many criminal cases. There is no doubt that Executive Director, Tim Miller and his team lend credence to the age-old saying… “Volunteers are not unpaid because they are worthless. They are unpaid because they are PRICELESS!”. How TXEQ Started “Don’t thank me, thank Laura.” – Tim Miller Many great and meaningful things have been born from adversity. In some cases, the response and resiliency to that adversity has resulted in monumental benefits to humanity. Such can be said of Texas EquuSearch after the tragic and senseless kidnapping and murder of 16-year-old Laura Miller in 1984. Laura’s father, Tim Miller, knows all too well the heartbreak and trauma that other families feel when a loved one goes missing. In August of 2000, Tim Miller founded and became the Executive Director of Texas EquuSearch which began as a horse-mounted search and recovery team. Through the years, like-minded volunteers have given their own time, talents, resources, and dedication to help recover and return lost and missing loved ones to their families. @susanfinchsolutions @binkypatrolcomfortingcoversforkids

I was just perusing Nude Beverages website and noticed that they had a separate tab entitled "Animal Rescue". Intrigued, I checked it out. Animal wellbeing is where I typically focus my own philanthropic efforts and seeing that a portion of all of their sales goes towards a number of local organizations actually made me want to join their team! Seriously. And to see it so front and centre on their website made me feel that their efforts are authentic. Did you know that 61% of Millennials would consider a company’s commitment to the community when making a job decision? If you’re searching for a way to draw in younger employees, and encourage them to stay with your company, improving your corporate giving programs could benefit you greatly. Check out Nude Beverages site for some inspiration (and maybe some new organizations you might want to personally donate to!): https://lnkd.in/gy2vtC2C #CorporatePhilanthropy #Recruiting #HumanResources

Meet Louie! He's a rescue and I adopted him from a no-kill animal shelter. Would you like a portion of your estate to "go to the dogs?" You can and there are many ways to do it. As a professional trustee, I've worked with donors and their attorneys in this area and I 've seen people 1. name a shelter as the beneficiary of an account; 2. specify a dollar amount or percentage to go to a particular shelter; 3. instruct their executor or trustee to pick one for them in their Will or Trust; or 4. leave monies in a Trust to be distributed over many years to specific or trustee-selected shelters and related charities. Consult with your attorney or talk to a professional trustee . . . . you can do a search at the Independent Trustee Alliance's website to find one in your area. www.trusteealliance.com.
