They possess valuable lessons in patience, curiosity, and viewing the world through fresh eyes. 💡 Let's not underestimate the incredible powers of observation and adaptability that children possess. From the slightest facial expression to daily actions like sitting or walking, they absorb and internalize everything. 🌱 Ultimately, it's the upbringing that lays the foundation for a child's development. While later guidance and refinement can be beneficial, the core values and lessons instilled during upbringing are paramount. ⚖️ When entrusting our children to educational environments, it's crucial to assess performance records, the overall environment, and the reliability of the intuition. Three steps to discovering your unique gifts and strengths and finding your purpose: First, make space with an inner inquiry. “What things were you told to stop doing in school?” ex. "stop reading, you're behind in math and should be focusing on that". Follow that with “Why?” Don’t rush to figure out an answer. Sit with the questions. Second, explore and make a list of the things that come easily to you, the things that you dismiss because to you ‘everyone can do that’. as my friend Stephanie would say “When a skill comes easily to you, you will tend not to value it in yourself.” Begin to recognize and appreciate those skills. Third, allow yourself to dream. What is the dream you have tucked away in your heart? Hidden so that it would not be crushed, laughed at or ridiculed. Put aside because someone told you it wasn’t for you. My School Adventure - Leading, Learning, and Ruler Taps! let's go back to when I was in 7th grade in school So, I was the class monitor, I had responsibilities to manage the whole class. During that time, it was quite an interesting task, but the things got crazy on my first day. Everyone was speaking loud and all over the place during break (U know it right 😅)... I couldn't control it, and guess what? Instead of scolding the class, the teacher punished me with a ruler on my hands! Next day, same ruler treatment. But on the third day, I cracked the code and kept the class quiet. I thought I'd get praised, but nope – the whole class got the applause. As a kid, it confused me. Why did I get in trouble for chaos, but the class got praised for behaving? Looking back, it taught me something important life lesson. Like, if you're in charge, you take the blame if things go wrong, but when things go right, you share the credit with everyone. Lesson learned: being a leader is like steering a ship! 🚢 through storms teaches leadership. When the seas are rough, take responsibility. It's a common misconception that everyone in education totally switches off for the summer break and falls into a suncream induced haze of relaxation and rest. For some school leaders that's not always as easy as it sounds and many find it difficult to fully disconnect from work over the break. If this is you, it could be useful to sit with this feeling of unease around disconnecting for a while and see if you can spot any unhelpful thoughts that drive it. Once you start to see patterns or triggers, you are on your way to quietening the unhelpful thoughts that stop you from truly switching off. #internationalschools #schoolleaders #school
