Seems like a new era of screens is coming that'll change how you interact with your gadgets forever! 🦄 In Sweden, a bunch of smart folks at Linköping University, led by Feng Gao, have whipped up a screen that's not just any screen. This thing, made out of a sparkly material called #perovskite, can see your touch, know when you're near, catch your fingerprints, and even feel your heartbeat. It's like it's alive. 🤯 They say this could be the next big thing for gadgets we use every day, like phones and tablets. Perovskite is the magic ingredient here because it's really good at soaking up and throwing out light. ☀ But this not only makes things look pretty. it can turn screens into Swiss Army knives that can do a bunch of stuff without needing extra gadgets stuck on them. Besides acting all interactive, these screens can also suck in sunlight to charge up your devices, thanks to perovskite's side gig as a solar cell. Imagine your smartwatch playing dead but actually juicing up for the next round. 🔋 To show off every color you can think of, they've mixed up perovskite LEDs in red, green, and blue. This trio can mix and match to paint any color on the screen. But don't get too excited just yet. There's a catch: these screens are like shooting stars—brilliant but brief. They currently fizzle out after just a few hours because the perovskite gets all shaky and the light goes out. The team, though, is betting they can fix this and other headaches in about a decade. 💍 Samsung Galaxy Ring. I had an interesting conversation with the Samsung bot (which I believe then handed the conversation over to a human operator) about the new Samsung Galaxy Ring. This smart ring, priced at around $400, is being touted as a revolution in the wearable device market. But will it really succeed? Features: - Health and sleep tracking features. It is meant to be worn 24/7 and gathers a range of metrics throughout the day, like steps, heart rate, and overall activity levels. Advantages over Smartwatches: - Discreet design: ideal for those who prefer not to wear watches. - Continuous monitoring: advanced health and fitness sensors. - Battery life: potentially superior due to the smaller screen size. Open Questions: - Will the smart ring market really take off? - What are the real advantages over smartwatches, besides the design?
