Celebrating a Landmark Decision: The Supreme Court’s Stand Against Gun Violence in Domestic Abuse Today marks a significant victory for the safety and well-being of countless individuals and families across our nation. The Supreme Court’s decision to prohibit domestic violence offenders from owning guns is a crucial step toward reducing gun violence and protecting vulnerable individuals from harm. The statistics are stark and compelling: • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. • Access to a firearm in a domestic violence situation increases the risk of homicide by 500%. • In more than 50% of intimate partner homicides, the perpetrator used a gun. This ruling acknowledges the severe risks posed by armed domestic violence offenders and aligns with our commitment to creating safer communities. It is a monumental step towards ensuring that those who have been convicted of domestic violence cannot further endanger their victims. Let us continue to advocate for policies and actions that protect the most vulnerable among us. Together, we can work towards a future where everyone feels safe in their homes and relationships. #SupremeCourt #GunControl #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SafetyFirst #EndDomesticViolence https://lnkd.in/gRD6hHXi

On average, more than once per day in the United States, a perpetrator kills an intimate partner and then dies by suicide themself. Of these incidents, 93 percent involve a gun. In a recent study, Everytown for Gun Safety interviewed 43 survivors of intimate partner homicide-suicide including people who survived an attempted intimate partner homicide-suicide and their family members. The results emphasized the importance of implementing laws that disarm domestic abusers. Read the report: https://loom.ly/Vi1wbMU #EndIPV #EndIPVHomicide #StandWithSurvivors #GunSafety

📢 SCOTUS to Decide If Domestic Violence Offenders Can Own Guns: Why It Matters As the US Supreme Court prepares to rule on United States v. Rahimi, a case challenging a federal law that prevents domestic abusers under restraining orders from owning guns, the stakes couldn't be higher. AU Professor and domestic violence expert Rachel Louise Snyder shares her insights on what this could mean for victims of domestic violence. 🔎 In an interview with Patty Housman, Professor Snyder discusses the life-or-death implications of this decision. With statistics showing that half of all intimate partner homicides in the US involve a gun, and that victims are five times more likely to be murdered if their abuser has access to a firearm, the potential impact is clear. 📚 Professor Snyder, author of the critically acclaimed "No Visible Bruises," emphasizes that this ruling could significantly increase the danger for women and children. I. Am. Disgusted. Not only did she REFUSE to say Officer Diller's name, but she blamed the GUN!! REPOST for exposure!! When asked to comment on NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller's death, Karine Jean-Pierre blamed the gun - and not the criminal who EXECUTED Officer Diller. And that criminal wasn't even legally allowed to own a gun in New York. He had 21 arrests, including nine felonies. #thinblueline #lawenforcement

This morning’s Supreme Court decision reversing US v Rahimi, a ruling from the Fifth Circuit that struck down three decades of federal law banning abusers under a domestic violence protective order from owning a gun, will protect the lives of women across America experiencing intimate partner violence. Every month in the United States, an average of 70 women are shot and killed by an abusive partner with nearly 1 million women reporting being shot or shot at by an intimate partner. The risk of murder increases by up to five times if there is one or more firearms in the home. Guns also exacerbate the power and control dynamic commonly used by abusers to inflict emotional abuse and exert coercive control over their victims. We know that guns can turn intimate partner violence deadly. We also know that these tragedies are preventable. Today’s Supreme Court ruling keeping guns out of the hands of abusers prioritizes the safety of millions of women, children, and families, across our state and country over an abuser’s access to firearms. #StandWithSurvivors #EndGunViolence #EndIPV
