Recently I spoke to the students in the “movie magic” summer camp here at Exploration Place. Last question one kid asked was “do you think A.I. will replace your job?” I said “probably one day.” But not today, kids! We made LOTS of videos over the last month with the new DC Super Heroes exhibit opening. The two I’m highlighting here proved to be yet another in a continuous line of reminders about how important sound design is to video production, filmmaking, etc… I had a very specific vision for the live science show promo. The goal was summer, blockbuster movie vibes, with a sprinkling of the old Batman animated series from the 90s. I searched and sliced (for too long probably) until I found as song with juuuust the right notes. Then of course none of the slow-mo footage had any sound so it was fun trying to find things that would work for those shots. In the exhibit tour video with Brooke, that you can see here: https://lnkd.in/gEcsibMJ we put our brains together while we were filming and came up with the bit of her whooshing off screen (that’s the technical term). Finding the right “whoosh” and footstep sounds was critical and it all came together nicely. REALLY love the ending Brooke and I arrived at for this one as we were rushing to get done before the museum opened. These aren't the most complicated examples of sound design, which can be an ultra tedious process - that is sure to be replaced one day by the single click of a button; but when there is time to do it I am always amazed by how much sound effects can elevate a project.

Because I don't have enough projects...here's a peek at my upcoming sample library! -- Exciting News! I'm thrilled to share a glimpse into my latest project: "Cinematic Decay: Strings I". Here's an updated screenie of the UI. It marks the beginning of what I'm calling a "microlibrary" in the Cinematic Decay series, and it's all coming together under my banner, ZQ SFX LLC. Here’s what’s unique about this library: 1) I’ve poured my heart into capturing custom recordings, putting instruments and synths through an epic journey of processing with external gear. Each sound has been lovingly recorded, re-recorded, and even re-re-recorded across various tape mediums like cassette, reel-to-reel, and VHS. The result? REALLY gritty and textured sounds. 2) Modwheel magic - Dynamic samples that evolve with your Modwheel. 3) Introducing the "Degrade" knob - it’s your ticket to adding that irresistible grit and edge to your tracks. 4) Velocity made optional - you have the control to shape your expression, exactly how you envision it. 5) Dive into MIDI Learn functionality for custom volume/dynamics mapping - your creativity, your rules. 6) Full control over ADSR for each patch, because every detail matters in sound design. Keep your eyes peeled! "Cinematic Decay: Strings I" is coming soon and I can't wait for you to experience the sounds I've been dreaming up. #CinematicSounds #KontaktLibrary #SoundDesign #FilmScoring #MusicProduction #AudioEngineering #synth #tape #analog #samplelibrary

I'm a choice voice solution for #voiceover work & #dialectcoaching - with a sound ranging everywhere from erudite to silly & above the noise. #voiceactor , #actor , #voiceoverartist - #prostudio ( #SourceConnect )
Remember the ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ books? There were numerous ways to get to Narnia: through the Wardrobe, summoned by the sounding of the Horn, touching a magic ring, etc. When creating #characters , it’s much the same: there are many ways to get to a great character — what’s important is THAT you get there and, once there, it’s critical to make the character complete so the character can join your stable of reliable characters to trot out upon command. In this webinar through Tennessee Voice Over Studios , on Wednesday May 22 at 12-3pmCT (9am-12pmPST • 1-4pmEST), using numerous techniques, taught methodically, we will learn to mine our life’s experience as well as our vocal instruments to kickstart #charactercreation in exciting and diverse ways. Because I’m also a dialect coach, #dialects can also be a kickstart option that we can and might explore. With reliable ways to find and retain characters, we unlock greater freedom and confidence for #auditioning or #performing in the #voiceovergenres which call for them. [Register at link in comments] The specific focus of this workshop is character creation in the #groundedacting genres: union & non-union #dramaticpodcasts 🎧 , #videogames 🎮 , and #animation 🎥 📺 of the variety which calls for grounded acting or the style of #acting that aligns with video games (shows like ‘Arcane’, ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’, ‘X-Men ’97’) as opposed to broader acting employed in something like ‘Spongebob Squarepants’ and the like. Whether a beginner or a seasoned pro, attendees will get a thorough and incredibly useful foundation of knowledge, tools, and techniques to create and retain in-depth characters that are deep and resonant. What We Will Cover: • Awareness of the nuances often missed or skipped when creating characters. • Awareness of the different vocal instrument “seats” for character tones within the anatomy of voice and in the resonance chambers of the vocal instrument. • Should we touch upon dialects: tools and techniques to find your “Comfort Zone Voice" in a dialect and then to adjust the dialect or accent (once under control) for variety of characters. • The skills to hear patterns of speech (such as those in dialects and accents) in a new way and learn to physiologically reproduce them in order to take inspiration from real people in your life upon whom to base characters For my teaching bio: [see comments] - #voiceover #voiceacting #thickskincreations from the #virtualdeskandnotebookoftomantonellis #tomantonellis #voiceartsawardsnominee | special thanks: Christi Bowen Tom Antonellis #actor , #voiceoverartist , #voicematch specialist , #dialectcoach | #podcast co-host of #backthroughthebasement | Rep - LA • #thelibraryagency , PNW • #ztagency , Boston • Lau Lapides Company w/ Model Club Inc MCVO , Vancouver • Red Raven Talent Ltd.

About a year ago, I came up with this video idea to teach sound and SFX design. I didn't have a plan, but a story emerged, and the video title went from "The Loop" to "Dream." The video demonstrates how life can feel like a never-ending loop, like a repetitive dream or a never-ending nightmare. It shows the cycle of being born, living, dying, waking up, working, and doing it all over again. The idea is that life's routine is like a dream that keeps going in circles. It captures the everyday cycle of life—wake up, work, experience the nightlife, and repeat. At the end of the video, I share my personal take on breaking free from this routine. It's a reflection on how I did escape the repetitive loop that life sometimes feels like. Color Grading for film is not just about making images look pleasing – color, light and shadow must serve the mood of the story and the specific emotions of a given scene. Grading techniques also direct the viewer’s eye, to enhance emotional impact, to focus on key visual and emotional elements. Setting & Emotions: this scene from the upcoming short film “Damaged” depicts the protagonist’s painful yet necessary step towards recovery. “Damaged” is a film about the process of addiction and relapse and how the aftercare system is broken. It is meant to breed more compassion for addicts as well as showcase the need for a discussion on how to make supplemental aftercare services (after they leave inpatient treatment) better known and more available to recovering addicts. The relapse rate is too high, and we are doing something wrong as a community. Something must change. This important film is currently on the film festival circuit, we will keep you updated on official release dates and channels. Writer/Director: Dana Kippel (LA, USA) Editor: Lauren Rader (LA, USA) Colorist: Holger E. Metzger (Germany | Chromatics) Sound Mixer: Johnny Le Composer: Caleb Sheffield

Director of The Research Library at Animation Art Conservation, Conservator, Writer, Curator, and Fine Art Photographer - Open to Work / Collaboration. IF YOU LINK-to-SOLICIT US, YOU WILL BE BLOCKED.
Last summer British University professor Christopher Holliday asked me politely and intelligently - How could a company as "practically perfect in every way" be responsible for doing the things to their art that I keep showing that they did on social media? To answer Holliday’s question I went about using nearly 7,000 words and 28 illustrations in an attempt to peel the layers of the onion that is the answer to his question. Published conjointly, the first part of what I wrote for Holliday can be found on his website, while I put the entire thing on my website. This is a link to the full version that caused film restorer Robert A. Harris to email me and call the essay “brilliant.” Please note: Be polite, and in no way view this writing as an invitation to message me attempting to get me to do your work for you or give you a job. CEO & Co-founder at pitch.dog ✨ | Crafting Premium Pitch Decks for Film/TV 🎥, Advertising Treatments 🎬 & Corporate Presentations 💸
Does Your Pitch Deck Look Like Everyone Else's? With all filmmakers using the same bank of images, you need to go the extra mile to make yours stand out. Using common, overused images can dilute the impact of your pitch. To stand out, here are a few tips: Avoid first-thought images: These are the obvious, go-to visuals everyone else is using. Instead, dig deeper and find something that truly represents your unique vision. Steer clear of popular films: Unless it's absolutely necessary, avoid referencing widely recognized films. They can make your pitch feel derivative rather than original. Explore unconventional sources: Look beyond the usual stock photos and film stills. Dive into ads, music videos, or even obscure art films to find unique imagery that resonates with your story. These sources can offer fresh, unexpected visuals that aren't being overused in film/tv pitch decks. Bottom line: Your visuals should be as distinctive as your story. Push past the ordinary to make a lasting impression. Here’s a look at our gallery, full of loads and loads of pawsome-images! 🐾 🐾 🐾
