The physical and occupational therapists -- and their vast teams of specialists and pathologists and clinicians -- working with the wounded in Israel are overwhelmed, and can use all the help they can get. Many of the loved ones, of the friends and family of the wounded, know this - and have developed tools they're using at the prototype, one-off level. So many more can benefit if we make these tools more broadly available. A Patient's Healthcare Experience Improves Their Recovery! We should be just as engaged in the context of treatment as the treatment itself. Context of interaction – Therapeutic Alliance Verbal - Active listing, Letting patient speak, Humor, Tone and energetic, positive language, Optimism, encouraging, Mirroring, Emphasizing positives (you have all these great things), Avoiding – Mirroring maladaptive language, avoid labeling with patho-anatomical dx, limit negative/problem lists Non-Verbal - Eye Contact, body language/posture, physical contact, Appearance Staff – Customer service specialists, Phone calls and phone voice, How many time the phone rings before someone answers (is someone answering the phone), Positive first experience (examples) External context – Clinic setting, Ambient Sound, Clinic set up, Lighting, wall colors, inviting (coffee), Private and Open treatment areas, Posters, models, décor (positive – placebo or negative – nocebo) Treatment context – how we are delivering care, Hands on vs hands off, 1:1 with PT, Treatment tools, Energy and delivery Patient's Internal context - Beliefs/Expectations, Doctor relationships, Friends family, Community reputation: Google reviews, Past Experience (success/failure and why), Psychological state (anxiety/depression/yellow flags), Goals and barriers Starts with Motivational Interviewing
