We are thrilled to honor Michelle Danou as our Star of the Month! 🌟 Here's what her manager has to say about her: "Michelle’s dedication to the Long Term Care Ombudsman program is amazing. TSA’s service area has over 9,000 beds for nursing facility and assisted living residents and the program is available to all of them. When the public health emergency ended, Medicaid eligibility determinations started back up and some facilities didn’t understand the rules which meant that facilities were trying to discharge people who should have been allowed to stay. Michelle worked with the residents and facilities to resolve those issues and continues to advocate for residents who are being involuntarily discharged. She helps them with the appeals process and helps connect them with programs to transition them to the community if that’s what they want. Michelle recently conducted a Resident Rights training at Maple Manor of Wayne during an evening staff meeting. These trainings help facility staff understand and provide care that aligns with resident rights. She also assisted in creating a video that was shown at a state training, 'What Matters Most to Me.' The video features a panel of residents talking about their experiences in nursing facilities and gave residents a way to provide input about their experiences. Michelle’s passion and commitment make a huge difference in the lives of residents." Thank you, Michelle, for all you to do make a difference at The Senior Alliance and in our community! 🚨 Big News! The Administration for Community Living has released a comprehensive report to Congress highlighting the remarkable progress made by 15 federal agencies in advancing the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. We applaud the ACL and federal agencies for their commitment to turning this strategy into action. In just two years, their efforts coupled with the advocacy of the Act on RAISE campaign have led to: ✅ New Medicare payments for family caregiver training ✅ Increased federal funding for research and technical assistance related to caregiving ✅ Enhanced data collection and public health surveillance to better understand the needs of family caregivers However, more ambitious actions are still needed to address the ongoing challenges facing family caregivers. As we continue to advocate for greater federal investment and bold policy reforms, we look forward to further strengthening support for family caregivers nationwide. Read our full response to the federal progress report: https://lnkd.in/ewFG2kg3 Learn more about the report here: https://lnkd.in/es4SGF9P A Special thank you to The John A. #LeedsCityCouncil set to make care experience a protected characteristic. Members of #LeedsCityCouncil’s executive board are set to agree to establishing #careexperience as a locally protected characteristic by the council. The move follows a deputation to full council from #careleavers, recognising that people’s experience of being in the #caresystem can lead to similar barriers than those faced by other groups with protected characteristics. A young person who is ‘#careexperienced’ means that they have had experience of the #caresystem, either on a temporary or long-term basis, and includes children currently in our care, as well as ‘#careleavers’ – people who have been in care previously. Through this formal recognition, #LeedsCityCouncil is joining 57 other councils in ensuring the needs of care experienced young people are at the heart of all council decision-making, alongside other groups who formally share a protected characteristic https://lnkd.in/gTpucedv #LeedsNews #LeedsStar #LeedsStarNewspaper #LeedsCityCouncil #VisitLeeds #LeedsCity #Leeds

If you've had to look for senior housing, you've likely come across this company that charges housing facilities with referral fees -- a fee that can even be as large as the cost of the first month's care. Businesses that charge referral fees can benefit from: - steering families toward more expensive options - discrimination against low income families that can't afford costlier care At the same time, the referral practice can drive up the #costofcare and drive down #quality as money is diverted from senior care to the referrer. It's a broken system. But A Place for Mom is not alone. This is a widespread practice in the #seniorcare #eldercare industry stemming from a lack of #transparency. We need more than a Senate investigation. We need #laws and #policy to increase transparency in the same way that we have Hospital Pricing and Medical Billing transparency. If you are going to pay for senior care, you should know who that money will go to and why. #eldercare #seniorcare #policy #transparency https://lnkd.in/ggh7ztT6

Home care and consumer organizations have joined together to vehemently oppose the proposal to eradicate all Fiscal Intermediaries (FIs) and centralize control under a single state agency contract. Al Cardillo, president of the Home Care Association (HCA), said: “The CDPAP proposals that have been advanced, including the single statewide fiscal intermediary, defy the realities of patient need and patient care not only in the CDPAP program, but the crisis in access and care across the entire health care system. The Executive proposals have been prepared without regard for their exacerbation of these crises – hospital emergency room overburden, months-long delays in scheduling inpatient hospital procedures, individuals in need of in-home care unable to secure a home health aide or a nurse, individuals with severe disability needs struggling to keep their care intact and remain outside of long-term care facilities. These proposals are devoid of any planning for or appreciation of their human and health system impact. HCA calls on the Legislature to continue to resoundingly reject these cuts in the final budget, as you have already done in the one-house budget bills you passed in March. Hold your ground for the sake of your constituents and your community’s health system and work with those of us in the field who know the program, know the needs, and can work with you on better ways.” https://lnkd.in/eeW58Kbf
